post surgery , radio , and work ?!

Hello guys, hope all is going at its best.

As you know I'm recovering from the craniofacial surgery that I had on June 17. My surgeons said I can go back to work next week.

and my appointment with the radio-oncologist is next week.

so I wanted to ask you guys, if I started radio and went back to work is it ok? Or I should wait till treatment  is over? Because I don't want to go back to work and then have to take off for the treatment ! I thought if its not easy to work while doing radio, I'll simply extend my sick leave till I finish radio...

im confused , what do you think?

Goyca, first great news that the surgeon feels like you are ready to go back to work!  That is great news and I'm happy that you're recovery is going so well.

If you have the option and can extend your leave I would recommend doing it.   You've been through a pretty major surgery and probably not near 100% where you were before the surgery.  now you're about to start radiation and you've been on this site long enough to read some of the stories that it can be pretty tough, especially when you are recovering from what you've already had.  If you have the sick leave then extend it and put all your energy into getting through the radiation treatments, healing and then once you're on the full road to recovery without having more treatments down the line, then plan on going back to work.

Get this behind you and then go back to work.   Great news on the recovery and I'm really happy with the progress you have made.

Good luck as you start the radiation,

    Keith

I was getting chemo along with rads....

so the combination was fatiguing....however, I'm thinking that rads....in and of themselves.....could get pretty rough starting about the third week on until at least 2 or 3 weeks after they are over.  It's hard to predict how any one person is going to react to radiation.

    Goyca, glad you are doing

Goyca, glad you are doing well but if it were me and i had the time, i would wait to go back.  your body is still recovering and a little extra time can only help.

    God bless you,

Goyca, I was lucky with side effects mate but I would have been reticent about working through radiotherapy. Apart from anything else you have to go there every day mate. My worst effects were post treatment. Regards, Gary

    options..

Sounds like you are doing well if return to work is suggested. Each person is unique across many facets from physical treatment, specific condition, prior conditions, side effects from treatment, and varying mental and emotional states. For some heading back to work is the best therapy overall as getting back into the groove is really theraputic. For some heading back, even part time, may be more than what one can endure. For some, taking more time healing at home and using the extra energy for extra walks and day trips may be more restorative.

Long story short - do what feels best for you both physically and mentally.

    Good luck

    Goyca,

Sure, if you are up to it, return to work, but be prepared if you lose that “want to work feeling” and have to take additional time off.

You know, up until week 3 of rads I thought I had dodged the bullet, but I was wrong.

    Good luck,

    Matt
