Mets to Bone

Anyone here dealing with mets to bones? Was on avastin at end of the year for mets to lungs from renal cell. Had bad cough and short story I blew a hole in my lung due to the cough and a badly placed lung nodule. They patched me up and took 2 nodules out and found that they were squamous cell and not renal cell (I had renal cell mets in lung in April 2012as left kidney was removed March 2012  but sutent got rid of most of the mets). Went off avastin and on to erbitux. Good PET scan April 1 but the most recent one June 5 showed mets to my left 6th rib and right inferior ramus (pelvis). Biopsy yesterday showed squamous cell in the ramus bone with a lytic lesion and pathological fracture. I have no pain in either area except it feels like I have a pulled groin muscle. Thought for sure these mets were renal cell.  Anyhow will talk to DR. tomorrow as result came in late today. Anyone with knowledge?

thanks

Jeff

So sorry to hear this and

So sorry to hear this and praying for you. Jim had mets to lung, biopsy inconclusive as to whether it was from original BOT but they assumed it was. The oncologist offered Erbitux but Jim refused more treatment. When they did a PET in December 2013 they found mets in ribs and jaw. You have already started the erbitux so you have a jump on the mets. Jim would get pain in his ribs where the cancer was off and on. Biggest problem, we were told, is risk of fracture. Be careful.

Praying the Erbitux works and you do not break any bones.

Sending thoughts and prayers your way. From what I understand, it is important to determine source to determine mets. My brother was told he had kidney cancer then he was told it was stage 4 because had mets to lung. He went to Mayo and was asked for lung biopsy, they were stunned when he said they hadn't done one. Turned out he had two stage one primaries, one in kidney and one in lung. Both caught early and treated. Clean 3+ years now.

My recurrances (SCC in jaw) were from the original site. As part of that tx, I recently did erbitux/taxol in addition to SBRT.

The erbitux was not too hard on me.

Not familiar with many on this site having had bone mets but maybe someone will chime in with some helpful information.

    Good luck

    Candi

    So sorry...

    Hi Jeff,

I'm very sorry to hear about the recurrence. I pray they find a treatment plan that can get it under control and allow you to have the fewest side effects and pain and allow you to carry on to your fullest. Good luck! Don

So sorry you have bone mets,

I wish I had more knowledge for you, but having had hospice experience I am aware that it will need to be monitored carefully and can affect your calcium levels.  There are treatments to manage pain which I pray you do not have currently or in the future including radiation and the many pain medicines we all have been exposed to in this forum.  You are in my thoughts and please keep in touch when you can,

    Thanks all

Plan will be to continue erbitux every week and add in carboplatin and 5 FU chemo every third week and then do another PET scan after 3-4 sessions and see if it will stunt any growth. I will start this July 1. I've been on Erbitux since early February so I'm fully aware of the acne/rash. No pain to speak of except for the nagging groin but that is tolerable so I take a cart rather than walk in golf
