Anybody on a Clinical Trial using MEK162 Drug?

in Ovarian Cancer #1

Hi Ladies,

   The second opinion doctor I went to suggested two options for me.  1 is surgery but she that said she may be asking for trouble because due to the small size, position and the unkown of other possible site.  I didn't really like that answer.  The other options was a clinical trial for the Drug MEK162. IS anybody currently on this study or has been in the past?  If so what was the outcome?  I am not making decisions until i see the other specialists.  I am getting so stressed out by all the decision making.  I don't know whats right.  Thanks for any help.

    Joyce, I don't know if any one here is in the specific clinical trial you mention or not.  Sorry I don't have any information to offer but where do you live and are you working with a particular cancer center or hospital? 

    Cancer sucks.  (Hope I don't get blocked for that) Try to take a breath.  Gather you data and questions.

    Low grade

    Joyce, I know a 46-year-old woman in BC, Canada with inoperable low grade ovca stage 4 who was on Letrozole (Femara) for a few months since recurrence and when it stopped working she entered MEK162 trial. It was only recently and I don't know yet how she is doing on the trial. If you want, PM me and I will put you in touch with her on Facebook.

    To my knowledge outside of estrogen-blockers (Arimidex, Femara) there are not many other options for chemo-resistant recurrent low-grade ovarian cancer.

    Where I live

    I live in Fl and the clinical trial is at the Moffitt Cancer Center in tampa.  I am also looking into cyber knife. Anybody have experience with that?

    I was in this study, but unfortuately I drew the chemo arm, not the MEK162 arm. This is a Phase III trial, so a lot of research has already been done and positive outcomes have been noted. The nice thing about clinical trials is that you get very close attention from the research staff. Also, you can drop out of the trial at any time if you feel that it is the wrong thing for you.
