in Head and Neck Cancer #1

About 1 year after my surgery,radical neck dissection performed by the di vinci robot, I'm 2 year 4 months out, I started feeling like maybe something was going on with my thyroid. I was gaining weight , hair very thin, and nails brittle..my primary did a blood test but it came back normal. I then, after doing some research, learned sometimes blood tests show normal, but there are other tests that may show a problem. Since then, I've been trying to get a referral to a specialist. Finally, last week, my primary agreed to it and I go the 27th of this month.

I'll be glad to go to the Dr for once in my life, this weight gain is really puzzling and disgusting..anyone else have this problem?

    I will be interested in your results.  I have put off calling primary for blood work.  Weight gain, brittle fingernails, cold sensitive.  I have had so much radiation to H & N it's not a matter of if, but when thyroid will go.

    no experience but wanted to say i hope the new doc finds the problem if there is one.  its always hard when we know something is wrong but tests don't show what.  let us know.

    No, I've managed to keep my weight off since tx in 2012. One of my thyroid tests was off but a second test showed normal.

    I have heard that everyone

    I have heard that everyone who goes through H and N treatment eventually has thyroid problems. Jim went on thyroid meds about 1 year after treatment. I friend of mine said he knew some thing was wrong when he turned the scre driver one turn and had to rest. LOL That was a couple months after treatment. I have heard that there is another test they can do for the thyroid because it doesn't always show in standard testing. I pray this doctor can take care of this issue.
