CBD or Hemp Oil

A guitar playing friend of mine on a discussion group who is also an MD suggested that I discuss taking CBD--a non-psychoactive derivative of hemp--because of it's promise in fighting cancer, pain, and nausea. It's legal in all 50 states apparently and is sold online as oil or gum.
Anyone here have any experience--first or secondhand--with CBD? And like any dietary supplements how do I know I'm not getting snake oil if I buy it online.

I've used it in the past but only as an ingredient in , wait for it , catfish bait . It should be readily available . I bought mine from a fishing tackle company in Chicago .
