Christmas, finances, and family

I guess this will be my first Christmas without either of my daughters.  My oldest had invited us to her place (and her husband's)  but my youngest really needs to work, and all of us need to catch up on debts: a wedding this year, student loans, and trips.

Trying to plan an alternative date doesn't work with my oldest because her husband is in school and has exams.  So, they are going on a cruise instead.

On the other hand, I feel guilty !!!!  I am just so physically and emotionally tired, that having a little time not to decorate both inside and outside,  pick a fresh tree, or cook, or bake, or shop and wrap presents......

kind of makes me feel relaxed and less stressed.  While I will miss our usual traditions, I know we will

be in each other's hearts during the season.  :)

PS---we all live in different cities now.......just needed to share this.

I agree with you! I'm looking forward to having peace and quiet instead of being exhausted from preparation. Since I was forced to medically retire earlier this year, there is no money so even if all my grown kids were here, it wouldn't be the same. We just can't afford it anymore with both of us on Social Security now.

I always think I'm the only one without kids in my state, so you made me feel better!  I think I've adjusted to  being alone at Christmas. There's a regular and busy routine with friends and acquaintances but not the same as being with family.  Linda

    peaceful is good....how about

peaceful is good....how about a LITTLE table top TREE ..nothing costly (even check out thrift shops) but just a bit of the holiday?

I totally understand...it will be different but change is not always a bad thing.

    yes, a small tree !

I saw one in the summer at Hobby Lobby in Orlando, but thought of buying it online and I can't find it.

But, I will keep searching.  :)
