Mouth sores / Thrush

Hi All:

I found out that my mom has a yeast infection in her mouth and is taking antibiotics. Is this the same thing as Thrush? I know that someone had asked if she had this in the original mouth sores thread. Does this make the mouth sores worse or more difficult to heal? This could be why nothing has been working for her. The best relief is when she drenches a cotton pad in MuGard and keeps it in her mouth for several hours (pressed up against the sore).

Your tips and advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

    Thrush

Yuck!  I had it the entire first go around with cancer treatment.  It is not an antibiotic that your mom is on (and if she needs to be on antibiotics in the near future you will need to keep an eye out for thrush).  Thrush made everything burn and taste even more horrible than it possibly could be.  The med should help in a few days, finish the entire treatment, get a new toothbrush.  Others used probiotics (check with doctor before taking anything while in treatment).

    Agree with KT, your mom

isn't taking antibiotics for her thrush.....it's not a bacteria, it's a fungus........Thrush is a yeast infection....just like we can get "down south".....it's an overgrowth of a fungus that occurs naturally in our mouths.....

Does it make mouth sores worse.....gawd, it would be hard to tell.  Mouth sores hurt bad enough, then throw thrush in there, and your whole mouth burns like crazy....as far as I'm concerned they are both miserable....and I wouldn't have been able to guess where one left off and the other began.
