Hi everybody! I'm new here and am trying to get my 'sea legs' as it were. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hi. I have just finished treatment for TNBC including chemo, surgery, and 6 1/2 weeks of daily radiation. I did not have reconstruction surgery, but rather decided for a prostethes. It's nice to find a place to go with so much info, and so many ppl such as myself. I'm hoping to be an active participant and look forward to getting to know you.

Ta Ta for now..

    Welcome

You will find people on this who have had similar experiences and will share their experiences with you.

I am still waiting to find out what my tx will be, so I can't offer you much advise.  But I'm sure others will.

    Again welcome.

    eyebrows and lashes

One of the things I'm dealing with is the RE-loss of my eyebrows and eyelashes. I lost them completely during chemo, but they regrew back, although not fully. After about 3 months, I noticed my eyebrows thinning out again, and bare spots. Same with my eyelashes. I was't prepared for losing them again! Back to the drawing board, I guess. Will they grow back and stay? Or will they keep falling out every few months?

    TNBC and Me

I am also a TNBC survivor. I was diagnosed in Dec. 2009. Had a right mastectomy in Feb. 2010 followed by 4 rounds of A/C and 12 rounds of Taxotere. No radiation. Then I had 2 reconstruction surgeries. My eyebrows and eyelashes (as well as a lot else) fell out during chemo. The eyebrows grew back but more sparsely than they were before. My eyelashes grew back but were completely colorless as opposed to the brown they were before chemo. They stayed put and did not fall out again. The thought they that might continue to fall out is dreadful. I feel for you. Chemo certainly treats everyone differently. My "unusual" symptom is that my eyes continue to tear excessively almost 3 years after my last chemo treatment. Oh the joys of chemo - but look at the alternative.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    I was diagnosed Aug 24th,

I was diagnosed Aug 24th, 2012, will be having my one year mamogram in a couple months. My surgery was left side. 8 rounds chemo. I am only 5 months out from that. And, I only just finished 6 1/2 weeks radiation one month ago. So Im 'fresh out of the box' still. I will gladly deal with the little side effects from treatment, such as eyebrows and lashes. Even learning to deal with my 'chemo curls' (ugh!) as my hair is growing back slowly but surely. I could be dealing with a lot worse, and i'm grateful. Luckily my eye tearing resolved itself after my eyelashes grew back. Take care, and nice to meet you. Smile

    Welcome

You will find that there's always someone here who has experienced what you're going through - even if your oncologist "has never seen it before".  That seems to be a standard statement for some of us!  It does, however, get better for most of us.

TNBC too. Mine geared like crazy. The duct that drain tears were swollen and not allowing the tears to drain. I felt like a faucet stuck in the on position. I used warm compress and that seemed to hop some.

Dont be alarmed if your eyelashes and eyebrows fall out every few months after chemo. My last chemo was 10/7/22. I completely lost my eyelashes and brows two weeks later. They grew back my Christmas and I thought that would be that. Low and behold they fell out again in March 2022. Grew back pretty quickly and fully. Move to end of June 2022 and here we go again. They all fell out again over the course of two weeks. Luckily they come back quick and the new growth is right behind the fall out. Its mid July and they are almost at full length again. In another thread someone suggested since they all fell out at once with chemo they are on the same growth and die cycle as opposed to being staggered from growing them in as a baby. Don’t be discouraged. We have all endured worse, but I didn’t want anyone to worried. It doesn’t seem to happen to everyone because this was not something people tell you when they hear you are getting chemo or had chemo. Much love
