Surgeon visit

Hi all,

Just my thyroid nodule update... I have been patiently waiting for a month now. Got the biopsies done last week. They wanted to biopsy 2 of 6 nodules. They stuck 5 needles in the dominate one, and one needle pulled a few cells. The second nodule when I arrived was considered 'suspicious' and after the first biopsy, they said the second nodule was behind the big one, squished inbetween it and my jugular and they didn't want to go near it with a needle.

So 6 nodules, 1 tiny site with a few cells later... I can't see any thoroughness to any results he might have, and tomorrow the doctor comes up the plan. We see him early. I'll keep you posted.. and thanks, you all did a good job keeping me distracted reading frequently the last several weeks, even though I have only posted spuratically  -- I managed to stop searching Dr. Google after the first week!

So tomorrow morning.. I'll be jumping in pockets I am sure.. just for a bit, I'll be fine once I have a plan.

Hugs and good wishes to all,

Kari

to all medical stuff is a whole bunch of "hurry up and wait".  Holding my pocket open, so jump on in....you'll be in good company.

    Extra Big Pockets...

I wore my shirt today that has extra big pockets, plenty of room to wallow around in and get comfy for as long as you need....

    The Plan is set

Thank you all, I was in that doctors chair squirming when I saw that long black hose... I was jumping in pockets.. kept thinking all my friends have been through this and my husband, and well, I'd survive again too. I wonder who patented that device.

Anyway, the doctor said the only biopsy they got was one of five. And it was benign but inconclusive, due to the number and size of my nodules, they will be removing my thyroid on May 3rd.  The most suspicious is sitting squished against my jugular and they don't like that it has close blood supply if it desired.  I am not nervous or upset, actually relieved that I won't feel it when I swallow or greet it in the morning mirror, and more importantly, I won't need to worry about it every six months at another ultrasound/needle biopsy etc.

So guess I will get lots of necklaces for the holidays this year :)

Thanks again all.. you all are sooo awesome, and such a comfort.

    jugular vein closeness

    Kari,

My lymph node removal was called a “Jugular Vein Dissection” because of the intimate nature of the two.

    Very scary!

    Matt,

Oh man, that had to be nerve racking.. fortunately if they take this out now, it's still with in the confines of the thyroid and hopefully not attached. I was kind of worried if it went necrotic that it might invade and try to get chummy with the jugular.. Maybe that never happens, but creates for terrible dreams!

So very happy your surgery was a success..
