I Have My Eyesight Back

About a week ago I posted about my eyesight trouble.  ( http://csn.cancer.org/node/256493 )

 

Since then it has gotten worse. For example if I looked at the TV screen I would see three of them. I suppose that would not be so bad during the playoffs if there were three different games going on.Laughing

 

Kidding aside, I thought for sure I was going to lose my eyesight altogether. i have been down in the dumps over it all week.

I thought last night before I fell asleep that I would gladly take all the bad symptoms I am experiencing a million times over if only I could have my sight back.

 

Well about 15 minutes ago I stood up after eating and all of I sudden my vision had cleared ! I was so startled that I almost crapped my pants !

The only thing I can think of is that the rad treatments have shrunk my tumor enough to take some pressure off my optic nerves. ????

 

I pray it lasts !

 

The reason I am posting about this is just in case anyone reading this is having eyesight problems. I am proof that if you are there is certainly hope that things will improve. Don't give up !!!!

    I know how important eyesight can be. I had severe cataracts, which made me more than legally blind. Although I understood the cause (and thus did not have the anxiety of not knowing what is happening), not being able to see was a great handicap. The best thing since I've had cataract surgery is that I've started reading once again. Forgot just how comforting a good book is.

    Hope your eyesight stays good. When tumors press on the optic nerve, visual havoc can and does occur. Best to you and your eyes. Go look at something beautiful, or find a good book if reading is to your liking. Rick.

    That is wonderful. I bet you are right about the tumor shrinking ! I will say a little prayer that it lasts.

    Oh Dennis....that is wonderful!!

    actually....it's frigging miraculous!!  I think you may just be right about the tumor shrinkage taking the pressure off your optic nerve.  The lymph node on my neck basically just melted away over the first 3 weeks I was in treatment....a real visual of how the treatment was kicking butt. 

    This is something to truly celebrate.....I can't imagine how depressing this would have been.....funny too, how it just happened....like poof....I'm so so happy for you!

    That is great news!!!!!!!

     

    I like the playoff thing too. Except my pucking Philadelphia Flyers seem to be on the short end of the hockey stick when it comes to the playoffs.

    Yea!!

    The first thread I click on today and it is all great news!  That is so much better than a cup o' joe.  Congratulations on getting it back and may your tumor shrink into nothingness.

    Double vision...

    Hi Dennis -

    The tumor that I had was in my sphenoid sinus and was putting pressure on the abducens nerve that controlled the left/right movement of my eye. So when I looked out at a distance, I had double vision since I couldn't get my eyes to work together. I believe it's called parallax.

    This was the only symptom that I had. The initial set of docs I saw said it ws self limiting (there is a temporary condition called 6th Nerve Palsy that causes this. When it didn't clear, a neurologist insisted it was ocular myasthenia. No test confirmed that although he kept on coming up with test to prove his completely wrong diagnosis.

    Finally, after about 9 months and 5 different specialists, it was confirmed that it was a tumor that was causing the problem. Something like pinching a garden hose. Except here it was cutting off the signal to my eye muscle. Unfortunately, the tumor had been there so long, after treatment I had to go for a small strabismus type surgery to correct the problem. Now I'm fine.

    Ask the doc where the tumor is located. Might give you more insight...no pun intended... :)
