Still At Square One!

Well, got all psyched up(NOT) for third try at first chemo infusion today. Nurse tried to use port for labs, but pain during attempted flush about knocked hubby off chair. She said "It's not supposed to do that". When she drew back syringe, it was full of black blood. So blood draw from hand and then on to chemo doc. He wanted to do a dye study on the port, but can't do that because of allergic reaction. So, on to infusion center for chemo nurse to try port again. Same nasty pain. So on to x-ray. Waiting for results and next instructions, when surgical nurse comes up to take us to surgeon. He says "It appears your port has migrated and the catheter has detached, so you'll be going into the hospital Thursday at 7:30 to fix that, and then we'll set chemo up for the following Monday." I don't think he appreciated my comment that I don't do well before 10 AM, but WTH, without humor we'd be nuttier than we are now.

Needless to say, I didn't think it was the right time to discuss the specifics of the cancer that I mentioned on my last post.

Talk to you guys later. Need to call my daughter and find out about her scan.

Luv,

Wolfen

Good Lord......you guys deserve a break!!

Wolfen....you have got to be the strongest person I've ever known.  You two have bumped into every possible obstacle known to mankind during this, and yet you keep plugging along.  You keep that sense of humor, too....you are incredible.....hope fixing the port is just a simple thing, and you'll be on the road again right away.

    Hugs to you....BIG hugs.

    Wolfen,
    You are one of my

    Wolfen,

You are one of my Heros, your strength is amazing, your hubby and daughter are so lucky to have you. You guys do, like Phrannie said, seem to hit every bump along the way, but I am a firm believer that there was a reason God didn't want to start Chemo today. I remeber counting how many questions I would have for God when I got there(late in life lol), but in some way or another they all get answered in their time. So someday something will happen and you'll think that's why chemo didn't start that day, or why you were on that last "merry go round"!

God Bless you, keep that humor so you don't go crazy,

    Rachel

Sometimes you have to laugh for the lack of extra tears. I often hope my joking doesn't offend others but I have always joked my way through rough and scarey times.

Hoping Thursday is an easy fix and the two of you get back on track Monday.

    Thannk You Sooo Much, Phrannie

You know, I was thinking after I wrote this, how tired you guys must be never seeing a positive post from me. I REALLY do not do this on purpose. It just seem to be the way the cards fall for us. Look at what poor Vivian & David are going through. They are so much younger than we are and my heart just bleeds for them.

I can tell you that my hubby's patience is wearing very thin and he is completely exhausted. He's unable to tolerate a proper amount of can feeds to sustain his weight without becoming nauseated and throwing up. I had a message from the navigator that a pharmacy script has been sent for some meds for that, so hope it helps when we get it.

We've also discovered that if you have a hangnail, don't mention it. They'll set up an appt. for a doctor who deals in that. We had been trying to get one of the existing doctors to assume the prescription management of his home oxygen unit, which he only uses at night, but of course none of them felt comfortable with that, so now "poof", we've added a pulmonologist to the mix.

I spend way more time and money on medical appts. than I ever did in casinos and it's not half the fun.

On a somewhat positive note, my daughter's scan showed only small growth on some of her 38 lung tumors. She was always on a low dose of Xeloda, but will now be doubling the dose and restarting on Sunday, along with the Avastin. Hoping this will knock these suckers down or at least stabilize w/o serious side effects. If not, she may have to pull out the "big gun", Irinotecan. It is a killer chemo. For now, I'll remain hopeful just as I am that my hubby will finally soon be on his treatment journey.

Hoping for great results on that scan you just had.

    Luv,

    Wolfen

    Wolfen,

I’ve narrowed your problem down to a vortex or the bizarro world.  Your answers to a few questions will help.

    1. You don’t wear some funky smelling perfume do you?
    2. Do you walk one foot in front of the other or side to side?
    3. Do you drive your car faster in drive or reverse?

I know this sounds weird, but in the abi-normal world (Skiffin’s World) it all makes sense.  Not to worry CivilMatt is on the case.

The answer to #1 is: Only when I want to get rid of someone.

The answer to #2 is: Depends on how much I've had to drink.

The answer to #3 is: Depends on where I want to go.

Oh, and I believe in UFO's and hubby & a friend have actuallly seen Bigfoot up near Flagstaff. Come to think of it, you probably have also. Popular belief has it that Oregon is a Bigfoot "hot spot".

Rachel, I'm no hero. I've just been around this ol' earth long enough to make a real effort to accept what comes along and deal with it. I do think this part is easier for me than hubby because I don't have the constant physical pain and illness to contend with. I wish I had your faith in spiritual matters.

Jeff, I too sometimes wonder if my humor is misplaced, but if we can't laugh, what do we have. It certainly beats screaming at the top of our lungs.

    Oh my, Wolfen...

I think "bizarre" certainly describes your journey with this beast.  It seems like everything that could go wrong has happened to you and hubby.  It is time for things to level out for you so you can all get back to the battle at hand.  At least with all of this in your past, nothing else that comes your way will rattle you too much.

Here's hoping all of these strange things calm down and you can continue to put one foot in front of the other and your hubby and daughter get back on the road to recovery.
