I tried to gain a few pounds
I tried to gain a few pounds before the surgery. I had 70% of the right liver removed. All went well, 6 days after surgery I had a serious infection of the wound area. But the surgery itself went well. After the surgery get all the protein you can in you. I did the Carnation Instant Breakfast in the morning and what ever I could get my hands on with protein during the day. They suggested to get as much as you can. I had my surgery at the end of June and still trying to gain weight from it. I wish you the best!

    I tried
I tried not to lose weight, and after I left the hospital(4 days)I ate alot of soup, and alot of fruit, and vegetables.I was unable to eat any meat for about a month,or so.Try to rest as much as you can, that will help.My surgery was the middle of july, and I'm still alittle sore, but it dosen't hurt as long as I don't put any weight on it.Good luck.

    Keep the weight on
That's what they just told me again today, best to have a bit of weight then be to slender were their words.
And yep Carnation Instant Breakfast was the only thing I could handle for the first week or so at home, make sure your daughter has that on hand or she might like Ensure.
It's important to get the protein in after surgery, but you don't feel like eating. So if she can only do the Instant Breakfast or so for meals, (it appears that's what a lot of us did) that's a good thing, you have to eat to heal.

    Wonderful
That's good news indeed! Here's to her healing quickly and with little pain!!
Make sure she keeps up the walking after surgery, that helps a lot with the recovery, my best wishes to you all.
