Hearing loss

I'm 9 weeks out of radiation now... and just within the past few weeks the hearing in my right ear has been decreasing steadily. I can barely hear at all out of it now. WHY are these side-effects starting so late?? And has your hearing been affected? This sucks.. I have enough side-effects to deal with I didn't need another major one!

    Hi spaz ...
totally a guess based on what I think I remember others on this board saying...but if you had chemo you could have hearing loss from that as a side affect ...and it is a delayed said affect if I recall. Just like the numbness in the hands and / or feet .....

Someone will come along and chime in ...but all the same whispered a prayer this will be a very temp side affect for you ...

    Best,

    Sorry about the hearing
Sorry about the hearing loss, but it is a possible side effect of radiation. I had radiation as a kid in 1978 and loss most of my hearing in my right ear 12 years later. Just got done with radiation a second time 3 weeks ago, and left ear is starting to lose hearing. You may have to look into hearing aids, as they really do help.

    Hearing
Thought I had read somewhere that hearing loss could be a temporary side effect. While I have not lost my hearing, I have a little buzzing going on from time to time. Am about 10 weeks out and it has continued.

    Tinnitus
Tinnitus can be a side effect of some chemo....

Being yours is late, there is a possibility that you have some wax build up, especially if you had rads..

    as other have said
this could be a reversible problem. Wax buildup is very common after rads. So is fluid behid the ear drum. Your ENT can tell by just peeking down the canal. A five second, content of service exam.

    Rads effect...
    Spazactaz,
I didn't get far enough in to rads, but have several acc buddies who have had issues with fluid build up and having to have it drained. Their ENT's are saying it's due to rads. Best advice is to see what your doc has to say. I'm sorry it seems never ending...please keep us posted. Will be thinking of you ! Katie
