Slowly I turned to see that I'm making progress! Followed up with surgeons this morning. Nineteen hour surgery was 01/31. Fibula taken from leg and jaw reconstructed using fibula and titanium. Told them I had been to hell and back since I last saw them with the rads/chemo. They were pleased, at this stage of recovery with identical surgery, I was in the 90th percentile. He moved my 1st scan up from 08/09 to 07/25. Unfortunately, they won't allow any work on my teeth until November.
About week 5 post rad, I really turned the corner as far as getting my energy back....it feels so good. Looking over my shoulder til the 8 weeks post rad is up.

    hwt,

If you feel as good as your ordeal sounds complicated, then you are one happy and lucky guy. Glad to hear a positive report from anyone taking your bus route. Getting the energy back is great; it is the one item I struggle with. I sleep great and hope I eat (drink) good enough, but to get that energy back would be a blessing.

Do you want to talk about eating too, me neither.

    Best,

    Matt

That's great to hear! Hopefully you'll keep flying through the next couple weeks until your scan!

    Good for you, hwt!!!
Apt description for sure....climbing this mountain inch by inch. I'm right behind you in finishing radiation....but am still working on the last 2 chemo's...I found out today, that the Cisplatin/5FU pump is on a 4 week cycle, not three (good...more time to recover between them).

I'm delighted you're talking about the return of some of your energy...I hope I can say the same, or at least notice something different.

Sending positive thoughts on your scan...(I write all these dates down on my tablet so I don't forget who's doing what and when).

    Energy
    Matt,
Wishing I could give you a secret recipe for the energy. Can only tell you I was finally able to get off all pain meds and that seemed to help the most. I take 1 Lorazapan and 1 Advil PM at night to get a sound sleep. I generally drink one Ensure a day and try to include protein in my diet. I really think elimination the pain meds made biggest diff. I will say, when I lacked energy I gave into it and slept allot. I sleep about 10 hours a nite now but naps are getting fewer. Like everything else, good and bad, seems it just happened one day! Hope today is your day.

    Thank you!
Thanks to everyone for the good thoughts and prayers. I was stunned at the noticeable change in energy from 1 week to the next. I truly hope the same for each of you. It saddens me to think back 6 weeks to the miserable treatments and to know that so many kind and thoughtful people are having to make this journey.
