2nd Surgery tomorrow..

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
Hello my fellow warriors!

So tomorrow I check in at 6AM to go in for my last (hopefully) surgery. The surgeons will be removing about 40-50 lymph nodes during the neck dissection. At this time, the doctor will be cleaning uo the enges of my tongue to prepare it for reconstruction. They will remove the tissue from my left arm and use it for the area in the tongue that was removed 3 weeks ago. They will also take a chunk from my leg for the skin graph to replace the forearm skin.

They told me that this will be a 10 hr process? Does that seem right? I guess it really doesn't matter if it all goes well. Obviously, I have my fingers crossed that the node come back negative. I may not have to do rads or chemo then.

The doctors say that even if the pathology comes back negative. they may sill wang me to with rads. Even after reading through the 'SuperThread' there seems to be some mixed opinions on to go through this or not. If there are now signs of cancer in the nodes why go through the radiation treatments with all the downsides to what happens?

Either way, I wont know for about a week and there is no need to worry about it now.

    Good luck and well wishes for tomorrow.

    The doctor probably blocked off 10 hours to be safe, it might take less. My ENT gave me the choice of additional treatment or not and as you can see I just couldn’t pass up meeting all these fellow bus riders. Rads and chemo are not required for everybody; I hope you are successful which ever direction you go.

    This time tomorrow you will be looking around and feeling fine, it might get a little crowded but we will all be there pulling for you.
