Going Home

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
We are selling our house and will be moving home to Daytona Beach next week. I know we should not make major decisions during times of stress but we are. I grew up in the Daytona Beach area and Jim has been there since he was discharged from the Air Force. We also have two children in the area, my mother and two sisters. Jim, since recieving the news that his cancer is in his lungs now (unknown primary but they suspect the BOT cancer) has been worried about me living here all alone. Also. we both love the beach, saltwater fishing, sailboating etc. and it will all be at our back door. We bought a home in a gated retirement community so Jim feels I will be safe. I will also have family to assist me if I need help with his care later.

After we move and get settled we are taking a trip north to see our daughters new home in Alabama (her husband is a Marine John) then to Jim's home town in Kentucky to see a friend of his he grew up with. After that we head to Ohio to visit some of my family and then come back home for the next CT. Jim says that will be his last CT because why bother when they cannot do anything. I pray that CT shows a miracle of NED.

    First I hope and pray that ct is NED. Moving is such a hassle...but what a wonderful gift of love your husband is showing you ! I hope all your travels are safe and loaded with many adventures ! Will be thinking of you both, and enjoy your new home ! Hugs and warm thoughts sent your way ! Katie

    I too hope and pray that your husbands CT will show NED
    or at least a positive outcome for him.
    I think John (Skiffin) lives up that way, so there are a few of
    us here.
    Good luck with the move, but more importantly Good luck

    Hi Debbie...
    First, I am praying for you and your husband in my nightly prayers. Don't care what people think, but I do believe in miracles and I have sooo many of my message board friends on my nightly prayer list...so I will continue to pray for that miracle!!! :)

    My mother lives in Daytona Beach. She lives in a gated community called Pelican Bay...would that not be cool if you were in that same community!! :) I can hear the races at the Daytona Speedway over the phone when she is on the back porch she lives so close....

    I lost my dad last year to Acute Leukemia. Dad and mom were married 50 years and I get 1 - 2 calls a day from mom bc she is not used to doing her checkbook or anything else (Dad I guess did everything for her)and she just has so many questions. I think it is great your husband is thinking of you in this ...but I still want that miracle!

    Thanks for the prayers Tim, I too believe in miracles. Pelican Bay is south of town and we are north of town. The community is called Holly Forrest. All our family is north of town except our daughter who lives in Port Oraange which is south of town. Daytona is a great central location. Not far from 5-6 hours to the Keys and 4-5 to Savannah. Lots of fishing north, south and east.

    I know how your mom must feel not knowing how to handle the finances. Their generation managed everything else and left that task to the husband. Luckily I have always handled the finances since that was my background before going into ministry.

    You guys already live in Florida right...just down around Sarasota....?

    I haven't been over to Daytona Beach for awhile.... I do live in Lakeand which is between Tampa and Orlando.... But I actually was born and grew up in Ohio...Mount Vernon, (born in Mansfield)....

    Enlisted into the Marine Corps from Ohio in 1973, served six years active duty, and another 10+ years in the Reserves.

    We all need a Florida get together...we mentioned that once a few years ago.

    I'd still opt for the CT's when presented....never give up the fight.

    So sorry you are dealing with "end of the road" issues as are we. It is great you will be close to family for much needed support. Glad to hear you have a few trips planned and that you can make the most of the days ahead. God bless you. Karen
