Cancer Recurrence

Hi there everyone. It has been a while. I see some familiar names but unfortunately a whole lot of new people are dealing with this horrible disease (and its treatment). Buzz (my hubby) finished treatment January 2011 for base of tongue cancer. The cancer is back. He now has 3 tumors. One in the Fossa of Rosenmuller (nasopharyngeal area), one on the side of his tongue, and one in his throat near the voicebox. He is receiving Palliative Chemotherapy to hopefully shrink the tumors but he only has months left to live. My question concerns the progression of this disease and the issues we will have to deal with in the near future. Does anyone have information on what to expect? Thanks. Karen

I am so sorry to hear that Buzz has more tumors. My heart and prayers are with you both. My husband finished Base of Tongue treatment this past February. His CT was ok in April but he has a lump on the side of his tongue, (same side as the primary tumor), that he is worried about.

Get that lump checked pronto. Buzz had two CT Scans which gave us a false sense of security. 3 month later we found the lump and PET scan revealed two additional tumors. I don't want to scare you but this should be checked out. Karen

    HI Karen ..
First, I am sorry for your news. Second, I will be adding you and buzz to my nightly prayer list ...I feel sometimes I am the only one who still holds out hope for miracles, but on this forum I know I am not.

Thank you too for sharing what I would be afraid to ask at this time and in your situation...I finished BOT treatments in January 2012 and my first PET / CT scan along with a scope exam (May 7th) looked really good (they never can tell you for sure if you are NED on the first scan they say simply bc of the swelling and after affects of the tx) and my last scopes / finger exams June 6th showed nothing. Did your husband have any other scopes or PETs or just CT scans?

    I will be praying.

    So sorry
    Karen:

So sorry to hear this news and will be praying for you and Buzz. When Charlie's came back it was with avegence. He too received I guess you would call it pallative chemo. He had erbitux and something else which was doing the job, but if you remember, he had a gi bleed and had lost a lot of weight, and blood counts went crazy and all. But, of course everybody is different and miracles do happen. It's not easy watching your spouse go thru that and we had been married for 35 years. It's still not easy but you do what you have to do and with God's help and the wonderful people here you make it thru. Treasure every moment and God Bless!
