As well as how did your first radiation go you today. Hoping to hear the PEG is being kinder to you. Mine actually didn't give me any trouble today at all, except where to keep it. Had to lose my bra to go to chemo...that was my fave storage place for it...ended up tucking it into my pants...LOL

Just wishing you the best for all that may have been on your plate today...

    Hi P51
Peg tube eased up a bit. Asked my chemo doctor about it today when I came in for first session (actually I'm sending this as I sit here getting chemo treatment). He said it looked fine. Said thin people sometimes takes longer to adjust. Had 1st session of radiation
yesterday. Wasn't as scary as I expected with the mask. Day 2 radiation before I started this chemo session. Gave me a couple different prescription to alleviate nausea ahead of time. Still couldn't handle getting sick til peg tube is completely painless.

I ordered a PEG tube belt on line the other day for $20.00 Anxious to see how it's going to work. I too use the bra trick when I can. I hope all is going well for you. Sounds like you're running a day ahead of me. I do chemo again tomorrow then wait 21 days for my next session.

    Peg tube carrying tip
Ladies: one thing I did to attach my PEG tube to myself was to get a long section of yarn or ribbon or even brand new shoelaces (at least 36" long) The part at the top of the PEG where you have this little valve, open it and put the piece of yarn in the loop and close it. (If you have a 2 valve PEG like I did, put it in the smaller valve, which I never used) then you can put the "yarn necklace" over your head and "wear" your PEG tube. I did that for 15 months and would just have a few new clean necklaces ready to swap out. the yarn dried out pretty quickly so I even used it in the shower. hope that helps.

    I'm allergic to paper tape,
I'm allergic to paper tape, so I use an ace bandage (wide and long). I put the split sponge in place, then wrap the bandage around tightly enough to hold the sponge (which doesn't have to be that tight). Then I tuck it under on either end, and tuck the end up under one fold. It works really well!

I noticed this evening that my PEG tube site has started bleeding. It was infected slightly, but seemed to be reacting well to the removal of the tape as well as the antibiotic. Then... blood. Ugh. I had it put in two weeks ago. It looks like the stoma may have gotten bigger somehow?

    Laralyn, were you a little
Laralyn, were you a little more active the last day or so >? that might explain the bleeding.... as long as it's not gushing out, you should be fine. I had that happen on days I did a little more bending than others, and it usually stopped within a few minutes. It would, however, happen more than once a day. the first time it happened to me, I had the onc resident look at it and he said it was normal. if you're concerned have someone check it out at your next appt. LOVE the Ace bandage idea... i never thought of it.

    Being allergic
This may not be a problem for you, Laralyn, but I too used the Ace bandage trick, and it wasn't a problem until the heat and humidity of the summer kicked in. I was too slow in reaction to a rash that developed, and ended up using loads of Baby Powder to heal it. I then used an oversized T-shirt. Cut a small hole in it, and just taped the tube to the exterior of the T-shirt. Twas the new fashion statement in the Summer of 09. :)

    Ah ha! Yes, I did!
I hooked up new computer speakers which involved a ton of bending under my desk. Thanks for passing that along!

Ok...going to try the shoe lace trick....
I really don't like tucking it into my pants, and it appears that except for weekends, I'll be braless (getting amifostine everyday before rads, means they want me to be "port ready".

I noticed that the two days before chemo I was pretty active, lots of bending when playing with my dog...those two days was the sorest my PEG was and there was also blood in the dischaged. Guess Moj and I'll have to figure out a different way to play for a while.

Today was the second day or rads...and the first day on full fledged apres-chemo drugs...spent nearly the whole day asleep....thank gawd for hubby! He entertained granddaughter....her mom and I napped together. She needed a break, too :).

    Thanks Ingrid. Great idea
Thanks Ingrid. Great idea for the shower. Noticed the tape only holds for awhile then ended up holding tube while I showered. I'm gonna give it a try.
