I've never been able to get the chat room to work. I updated my JAVA plugins and still doesn't work. It opens and then immediately closes.0 -

for the first time to get on, and also opens a "connect" window, then kicks back to the CSN start page. What is it supposed to do? Do have a very updated Java on my comp, so don't think that's the problem.

I've tried to get in there, but it's been a failure. Criminey, they can hardly keep the site up if more than 40 people are on it, having a chat room that would work might be a bit of an expectation over-load....0 -

Used to be a person you could contact - I'll check my Email - I had to get help getting into chat when they did a bog update. You could hit "Contact CSN" at the top right of this page, but I think I used a specific email address that someone else gave me. I've been having probs getting in the last few times I've tried, too - but I think it's a totally different problem.0 -

Facebook chat is very functional.
There was a Head and Neck Group, but for some reason it confused me.
I could make a CSN related Head and Neck Group that we could (well John could)link to from here.
What are your thoughts?

Tried a bunch of different ways of saying it, to pull up a possible group...guess I didn't come up with the right combination of words or something.
I'm all for it, if it's possible and others want to join in...

To begin with, trust me, the chat room here is far superior to the one in facebook, far, far superior. Other comparisons, however, do indeed leave the CSN site on the short end in the many ways pointed out herein. The entire site can be down, the Chat Room can be down, both can be extremely slow to get into, and if you are not aware of the primary prerequisite for getting into the Chat Room, it is likely you will never get in.
If you are unable to get into the Chat Room, the most likely culprit is that you do not have Java Runtime on your computer (this is software that is needed to talk to the chat server), or your version of Java is out-of-date. The easy and zero-expense fix for this is to go to www.java.com and perform the download. When asked if you want to save it or run it (the download) select Run. This will allow you to download and run the program that updates your computer with the latest version of the Java application you need.
The folks that operate the site have been advised of the issues above and I'm sure that they have done all within their power to fix whatever they can. We can only hope that if these problems continue to exist it is because they are spending their money on things that will be more important to survivors and caregivers in the long run. We can hope.
In the meantime, if you update your Java and still cannot get into the Chat Room, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via the CSN email and maybe we can resolve your issues in that regard.
Personally, by the way, I am on FB, originally so that I could have easy access to family members and particularly to photos of my grandchildren, and now as a conduit to any number of former CSN regulars of many cancer varieties that I no longer see here regularly. I find it quite useful in every way BUT the chat feature.

Hello there. I wrote to CSN contacts many times and they never answered me.
My Java is fine and I still can't get into the Chat room

Assuming you are
Sue,
Assuming you are running a version of Windows, try deleting your current version of Java (Control Panel/Add and Remove Programs...select Java) and then download the latest version. Even if you think you have the latest version, you may have a corrupted file, and so deleting and then re-installing will give you a new and clean version. That has worked for a number of folks.
The version I have, by the way, is 1.6.0_27 Console.
