Starting Treatment

Hello All,

I have a question. Does anyone know about poorly differentiated papillary serous carcinoma of the ovary. This is the type of cancer that my mom has. She had her surgery on 2-21-12 with a complete hysterectomy and partial bowel removal. She now has a colostomy.

My mom's appointment is next week to discuss her treatment options. I downloaded a copy of the "Questions to Ask My Doctor About My Cancer" worksheet from the American Society website. I just want to know if anyone knows anything about this type of ovarian cancer? Also is it common for a person to start chemo much later after surgery. We are finally about to start treatment.

This is outside of my area so I'm asking the community for help and clarity.

Again, thanks for your help.
Sincerely
Babyg1rl

I have the same kind of ovarian cancer w/ a bowel resection & I asked the doctor if papillary serous was the WORST kind. He said no, it could be worse. He said he sees really sick women take chemo treatments & get better.

I found out a lot of natural therapies were not able to stop my cancer & chemo was really a lifesaver for me--even though I hated the idea of being voluntarily poisoned.

I was also told that I had an 80% chance of getting into remission. Maybe your mom will be in that 80%. Keep her hydrated & moving--watch out for constipation (I don't know if that is still an issue with a colostomy). After a bowel resection, it is customary to wait at least a month before chemo or the resection won't heal.

Best wishes to both of you.
