Did anyone happen to watch Is sugar toxic? on 60 Minutes last night? I think most of us know the answer to that question whether we wish to acknowledge it or not. I'm sure there will be some who will not see a connection so ignore it or take it with a grain of salt (just ONE grain because too much sodium isn't good for us either).

"(CBS News) If you are what you eat, then what does it mean that the average American consumes 130 pounds of sugar a year? Sanjay Gupta reports on new research showing that beyond weight gain, sugar can take a serious toll on your health, worsening conditions ranging from heart disease to cancer. Some physicians go so far as to call sugar a toxin."

Hey Phil- Yea, I did catch
Hey Phil- Yea, I did catch that last night. Very interesting and it reaffirms what I tell people all the time. I am not as strict as I should be but no where near how I was before diagnosis. I like the part where they talk about how the government went after fat content in foods in the war against heart disease. Fat content has decreased ten fold over the last twenty years and heart disease (among other health issues) has skyrocketed. The only thing that has increased at the same rate is the use of sugar and artificial sweeteners. Plus, how about the guy from the suger industry sidestepping the question whether they know how bad it is. You'd think he was a presidential nominee.... Pretty scary stuff but how many people will listen? Not enough, I'm afraid. I'm glad YOU brought this up as I think it would have sounded more negative had it come from me.

    too much sugar
The amount of sugar most people consume is really scarry. I liked the part where they compared to drug addiction. I've seen it with family members especially soda. I was really guilty of liking deserts and now I'm leary of eating sweets. Can't give em up completely just in moderation. Jeff

    god works in mysterious ways
    Phil,
Big pharmacy, big chemical, big food is just most resourced than big govt.

Look at big smokes. They still make billions.

When I think of my friends in the USA, I cry.

I wish big USA was not the current truth. It's so true of the west.

Health is easy, just start today, go for a walk, get some sun and build a healthy lifestyle.

Diet is where I started, its an easy place to start.

Be strong, be well and at last something good on 60 minutes.

Not had sugar for so long.

But its hidden everywhere in fruit and juices.

It's such an addiction. Thanks for posting this phil.

Maybe pursuing health may help some of us.

If not at least I am a good example for my family and friends.

We have power to set a strong and vivid example of how we live eachday,

It's ok to fail, its human, apart of being alive.

My improving health happens day by day.

Don't stress about this stuff, just try and smile .

Peace of mind is my number one goals, that helps keep me happy in spite of lifes challenges.
    Hugs,
    Pete

I do not believe sugar is
I do not believe sugar is toxic. I believe the amounts that most consume it in is! Also all of the sucrose and glucose pseudo-sugars that are added to our food unnecessarily are bad for us.

Face it, extra sugars turn into fat. Fat is known to morph into other molecules, including cancer.

Read the ingredients on the product label before you purchase. There is Benzine in most cooking oils! Soy is added to Walmart butter and milk!
Do we really need Benzine in things that we are going to eat? Do we need SOY in Milk? I have never seen a soy cow!
(Read the Hidden Dangers of Soy.)

I now make all of our food like our grandmothers did. My family and friends tell me my food is the best they have had in many years. It is a little more work, but once I got used to doing it, it was not that much more work.
    Best Always! mike

I have NEVER been a sweet
I have NEVER been a sweet eater, NO CRAVINGS AT all, until Cancer at age 50. I would not even eat my birthday cake. No soda's, no cake, no pie, no candy...... then came cancer. I posted back in 2008, "what the heck is going on, I'm craving sugar. I have a candy bowl next to me non stop and I'm eating it all day. "

My husband walked in the morning and said to me, your belief about sugar and cancer is being supported on 60 minutes. Whoa!

I still crave sugar but I am aware of it so I stay away and try to get my sweets from fruit.

    This isn't related to
This isn't related to cancer, but I used to have a lot of mucus in the back of my throat, head felt large and I could hear a lot of background noise, foggy thinking, tired etc..I also had multiple sinus infections. I went to a MD integrative Doctor and he suggested a strict diet. No breads, grains, vinegar, mushrooms, certain dairies, milk and absolutely no sugar, or caffine. And within one week I felt completely better. I committed myself to eating right for about a year. After three months dairy was introduced again, but still NO sugar. When I got pregnant, I couldn't overcome my cravings. When you should eat the healthiest I couldn't. I controlled my diet fairly well for two years and didn't have to see a doctor for anything. When I went back to eating Junk, I got strep throat. I Know sugar isn't good for you and really want to get back to eating healthy. It is easy to get fast food and eat the Ho-Ho cakes. Two years ago the thought of it would have disgusted me.
