tongue cancer

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
my husband had SCC of the tongue in 2008 and had a hemiglossectomy with a radial flap reconstruction radiotherapy (no chemo was needed as his lymph nodes all came clear after removal)
He has been having trismus since then and alot of mouth infections. He had a another biopsy recently and it has recurred at the tip of his tongue now.
Apparently he has to go through the same procedure again.
Anyone been through this ...?? please let me knw he is only 41 years old

    Man, it seems pretty impersonal to know someone as only J20, kind of like calling you R2D2....... Oh well. There are a few people who post here that have pretty much been down this same road, though none of them that I know of are here every day. I'm sure they will jump in if they see your post, so I'll bump it back to the top.

    This disease is no respector of age group. you'll find 40's, 30's and even 20's on this board is a common thing. In fact, there is a woman from Brazil who posts from time to time on the board, that underwent partial glossectomy three months or so ago, who is in her middle twenties.....

    To interact on this board, it is beneficial if you fill out your biographical information. That way people can see a clear synopsis of the background before posting to you. But seeing the treatments were done in 2008, were you aware that radiation for a second time was an option for his treatment? This can be done with or without the surgery. If this has not been discussed as an alternative, I'm curious to know more about who is doing the treatment, and why this hasn't been discussed.

    Thank you Pat ..as far as i know i he will not be given any radiotherapy as he has had it once that is what the surgeon told him. I will fill out the full details so that other people will clearly understand.

    that if you've received this comment, it is wrong. As my history and others will attest. That was my reason for posting you this.
