Scope today
No scans of any kind except the pet 3 months out from radiation. I hear alot of people getting quartely scans, but our doc has not schedule any. Does that seem odd?

if he is getting scanned every three months, isn't that quarterly, 3-6-9-12?? I had some lung spots they have been watching so have been going every 4 months. Typically the longer the span the better off the doctors perceive your recovery. If I can get on a six month schedule that may be as good as it gets at this almost three years out. Old timers with no issues past five years may graduate to once per year. There really is a ton of variation, so much so that drawing any conclusions from scan schedules is probably as reliable as predicting rain.0 -

No scans, just scoped.He had spots on his lungs light up twice. They biopsied the first time and found nothing. I trust his doc, and I think he is confident that my husband is doing well.0 -

Congrats on the good news
I saw my ENT on friday and he scoped my throat, a little swelling on the rt side , nothing to worry about goes along with the healing process, says everything looks great...he wants to see me every 6 weeks to look at throat and made it clear he is the only one to scope my throat. I go for my first PET (after treatment ended) on the 26th of this month, from what my onco and rad onco tell me I will be getting a PET (not sure if my ins will pay that kind of interval) every 3 months and after a while it may change to every 6 months. I think from what I have read here, it appears each doctor has their own protocal for scoping and scans.0 -

I misread your post but your husband and I had similar situations with the lung spot issue. Sounds like they are keeping a close eye on him which is what they did with me. All sounds very right and normal. Congrats on the positive report.0 -

Glad you made that point. One of my oncologists does hands-on instruction for med school students, and during one of the dark periods of my treatment, this "child" enters the treatment room......introduces herself.....sprays the numbing solution up my nostril.....does the "follow my finger/grin/pucker cheeks/blah-blah"....then jams the scope up my nose. Says,"Wow, you are really swollen in there". Yanks out the scope tube and departs the room. In comes another, and attempts to go through the whole routine with me again, and I sorta recall using much profanity as to what is going on. My Oncologist then came in and informed me that they are just practicing. Told her that I'd buy the school a manikin, but we "ain't playing this game on me". Haven't seen a medical intern since.

I had plenty of scopes before my radiation and chemo but none after treatment. Alot of feeling my neck and looking in my mouth (mine was a mass at the base of my tongue along with 3 lymph nodes). I had a PET scan three months out and 9 months out but no CAT Scans or MRI's. I have been out of treatment since Dec. 2010. Guess they all have different ways to check to see how you are doing and saying NED!
Larry, I was very fortunate that the teaching hospital where I went (the James in Columbus, part of OSU) had the most gentle of souls scope me. I have always had fears associated with my nose from years of bloody noses when I was a child!0 -

Well I'm just coming up on the 2 year mark and I have had the pre-surgery PET and a six month post treatment PET and I haven't had one since.
I do ask my doc about it every time I go in for a 3 month exam/scope but he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to subject me to more radiation. Of course I have been reading a bit on here lately about mets to the lung so part of me says, "scan away".
