My beloved husband, Alan passed away.

For those of you who don't read Facebook I would like to let you know that Alan passed away very peacefully in my arms on January 31st. I had posted here that since Christmas day he had developed a pain in his back and said he only felt comfortable lying down. The Drs dx a water infection and he received 4 lots of antibiotics over the following 3 weeks, water samples that were free of cancer cells. I became very concerned that he was getting no better so rang the oncology nurse that I'd relied on during Alan's Ivor Lewis op in March 2010. He was NED July 1st 2011. On January 13th we saw his onco. Dr who straight away arranged bloods and endoscopy, I saw the concern on his face. By the time Alan was told the cancer was back in his liver he really felt to ill to care. He was admitted to our local hospital and given enough pain killers to keep him comfortable. January 27th I went with him to our hospice and I stayed with him day and night. They really cared for his every need and on the 31st he slipped away so very peacefully. If it had to be we could not have planned it better. One of our daughters and grandaughter had just kissed him and told him they loved him. There was just the two of us which he loved, I had my arms around him and gave him a kiss and he took his last breath. A wonderful passing for a wonderful man. People have questioned if it was worth having the operation for such a short time, but the answer is yes, Alan hated the chemo more than the op, we had 2 lovely holidays, he had a new car and he never thought it would return. But having read so much about this beast I always knew there was a possibility just hoped we'd be one of the lucky ones. But our quality time made us lucky? Alan lived just 11 days from learning of his recurrence.

    My condolences
    Ann,

I'm so sorry to hear of Alan's passing. I must agree with William - your "love affair" with Alan is obvious. That's great! It is so special to have that one true love in our lives.

Keep your wonderful memories close. Sounds like you shared many together!

Prayers of peace during this difficult time,

    Terry

    So sorry...
I am so sorry to hear about your Alan, Ann. I lost my Bill suddenly in December and I grieve with you. I pray that God will give you strength and that your freinds and family will gather around you and provide comfort. Talk about him as much as you need to...it is what helps me put one foot in front of the other each and every day. Love to you - Kim

Thank you Kim. Yes I did
Thank you Kim. Yes I did read about your Bill's sudden death and was so very sorry. I just don't think I can take it in that Alan has gone. Can't believe I will never see him again. I do have good friends and family to help me through but know it's going to be so difficult as I'm sure it is for you and everyone who has lost a loved one.

sorry to hear of alan's passing. I can't imagine the pain that you and the others that have lost there mates feel. I have been married almost 50 and each year has brought us closer. I agree with you, the time God has given me after surgery has been so precious and every moment to be cherished and remembered.
My prayers are with you, Sandra
