has anyone heard of cea level rising during chemo????

was wondering if anyone has had or heard of their cea level rising after 1 month of chemo? I mean from 100's to 1000's.....

    Sorry it's not clickable. The gist of it is that what they call a "flare" in CEA actually indicates the chemo is working. The CEA goes up as the cancer cells die off and dump large quantities of the protein that the test measures into the bloodstream. Someone on another site had a flare recently and her PET scan ended up showing the cancer was gone, so hopefully this will be good news for you too! Take care-Ann

    CEA levels
    Hello,
    For what its worth . . . . my oncologist doesn't even do CEA levels - when I asked, he said he doesn't feel they are a reliable indicator.

    thanks ...i really hope that
    thanks ...i really hope that surge is what it is for my dad...he looks and feels so good..funny cause ive heard some doctors like to do the cea often and others not...well i guess we will find out next wed after the pet scan...hoping for the best!

    great question nd i have read the answers.
    the have cheered me up up a little.
    my cea has risen fro 7 to 66 in 4 weeks. i will imagine its the natural therapies working.
    goto talk with onc soon.

    I hope you get a treatment thats effective.
