Avastin and joint pain

I have been on avastin since I started chemo I am on treatment 9 now. Since I have gone on just avastin the joint pain has really gotten bad. I can hardly walk now I use a walker and still move very slowly. Is this normal for the avastin. I just feel like a cripple right now.

    Hi Anne,
    I had avaistan

    Hi Anne,

I had avaistan along with 5 of my 6 carbo/taxol treatments. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble with joint pain. My fingers sometimes hurt. I have some pain in my shoulders, and occasionally in my neck. If I sit for too long, or walk very much, my leg muscles feel very tired. Almost achy. I broke my left ankle in '09, I do have pain in that foot. What as your doctor said? I've only had one Avaistan alone,, so I don't really know yet how that is going to affect me. I took my last big treatment in late October.

    not much
my pain doctor has not done much my morphine was upped only one time from 15 to 30 and oxycodone from 10-15. I have asked three times for them to be upped one more time and instead he put me on lyrica and upped it one time and then the last time he put me on mussel relaxers. The pain center I go to is about to open an office in Glendale which is where I live and when they do I am going to switch to that office. I don't feel my pain doctor is really helpping me I think he feels I am going to be addicted to the medication. I am not the type to get addicted to pills because one I hate taking them and Two they don't make me feel high so outside of the pain why take them.

    AVASTIN
I was diagnosed with PPC JUne 2010, total hysterectomy, chemo every 7 days, on clinical trial with carbo/taxol/.avastin. Then in December 2010 I was done with carbo/taxol and just went on Avastin for maintenance. I recently completed the Avastin in October. Avastin gave me a hoarse voice...joint pain, mostly arms/shoulder. I had bone scan, no cancer, went to osee arthritis doctor, no "art", I was very stiff getting up and down from chair.....I had very dry mouth from Avastin, I went to see orthoped doctor, he said I had frozen shoulder (no MRI tho) I went to see internal doctor, she says I have bursitis. I have had several steroid shots...they help temporarily. One time I had shots in both shoulders.....and then my heart raced for days because of so much steroids in my system. I still have shoulder pain. I usually don't take anything....exercise is the best. Most recently I have had bowel troubles, but they don't know if it is from Avastin or not....So far, they tell me Avastin is the drug....so we will see....my CA125 is 10. Good luck with the pain....it sounds like a side affect! I was also bothereed with drippy nose and nose issues....it seems to be gradually going away.....they told me from Avastin!

    Pain
    Anne,
I experienced severe knee pain when I was on maintenance Avastin, and was blaming the drug. I could hardley get up from sitting, it hurt so bad. Then I found out I have Hashimoto's and started treating it according to Dr. Datis Kharrazian's protocol, and the pain was gone within a week. I really think my problem was thyroid related. You could ask to have a thyroid antibody test (TPO) to see if you have a similar issue.

I was at a lecture that said
I was at a lecture that said the latest research on osteoarthritis is that it is actually a vascular problem--the tiny vessels in the cartilage get arteriosclerosis. The cartilage degenerates from a lack of blood supply. So it makes sense that joint pains/arthritis is showing up as a side effect from Avastin therapy.

Just wondering if the arthritis pains resolve when the Avastin therapy is finished.

My first round of Avastin caused my arthritsis pain to worsen plus shoulder pain where I did not have it before. I finished six rounds in June and my pain level dropped down to normal after a month or so. I am now starting another six rounds but with carbo/gemzar also.

    Avastin /Stroke

    Hello,
I was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer December 19,2009. My oncologist removed a 20cm tumor on my left ovary, a full hysterectomy and 10 months of chemotherapy. I participated in a clinical trial using Avastin which resulted in 2 stroks. I now have joint pain. Lympodemia (no feeling in foot)and short term and long term memory loss.
Other than the joint pain, does anyone else have the other symptoms I described or a stroke as the result of using Avastin?

    alrighty then
got me wondering now about other problems I have been having. I have the numbness in both feet and in my hands due to taxol/carbo I finished using those two drugs three treatments ago. I was told the numbness would get better as the taxol works out of my system. I started to notice that I could no longer bend the big toe on my left foot and this week I can't bend the big toe on either foot. My memory has been getting on my nerves, little words seem to slip my mind and it takes me for ever to remeber what I really wanted to say. I now am worried that it is not the Avastin and could be small stroke would I not know if I had a stroke??

    Avastin and joint pain
    Hi Anne.
I have been on this site for several months but only been looking at posts in the discussion for the type of cancer that I have. I have Brain cancer.

I have been experiencing extreme pain in almost all my joints, legs, back, neck, etc.
I asked my dr about it. He just put me on pain meds.

I have been doing quite a bit of searching on the internet (this is how I found your post) and I have found that arthritis type pain is very possible with the Avastin. I am not sure if this is causing any damage to my joints or long term. I have a call into my dr to ask some questions.

I hope that you find some relief from your pain.

    God bless, Lora

    Pain relief
The avastin cause joint pain much like arthritist(sorry about spelling chemo brian)I don't believe it causes any damage to the joints I do know that it causes the mussels around the joint to become lose. What we found with me is that I am having the joint pain my neck is the worst and I hate it, but I have fibromyalgia and the front line chemo helpped with my fibromyalgia and now that I am on the Avastin only it has caused the fibro to come back with full force and that is my pain right now. I am on morphine 150 mg a day it is 30, 60, 60 morning, afternoon, and evening that seems to finally be helping. Let me know what you find out from your doctor.

    On Avastin now
    Hi Anne,

I am currently on Avastin as part of a clinical trial. I did 6 rounds of carbo/taxol/avastin (with taxol weekly). I have been on Avastin as a maintenance every 3 weeks since 12/11 and will continue that until 10/12. I am also having joing and muscle pain with the Avastin. Very slow in getting up and walking, but steady pace once I get going. So far Ibuprofen seems to help if the pain is bad or persistent. I did have nose bleeds and gum bleeding for a while, but that subsided. My biggest problem now is severe high blood pressure that the doctor can't seem to control. I'm on 4 different pills for it and that's after 5 different dosages. Unfortunately, it's still not working. I'm very concerned about stroke or heart attack. I'm to the point that I'm really questioning the benefits of keeping me in remission or the risks of a stroke or heart attack. My next treatment is Tuesday so I will talk to my oncologisty about that, but I'd really like to continue on the clinical trial if at all possible.

Hope this info helps. You're in my prayers.

I am on the other end of the trail
I was on taxol/carbo/avastin after my second treatment every 21 days and after my sixth treatment was moved to avastin only. I also had the nose bleeds and gums bleeding but also did not last long. My pain is doing better it takes 30, 60 ,60 of morphine a day with 15mg of fast acting morphine for breath threw pain. I have always had loan blood presure so when mine started to rise we did nothing until it was hitting 147/70 and then they put me on 20mg of lisinopril and now my average blood preasure is 122/70 what are you on.

    I had high blood pressure
I had high blood pressure prior to being diagnosed and starting treatment and it had been controlled with Lotrel 10/20. About cycle 3 my pressure started to rise ( 150/ 90). We started changing meds and I was on Lisinopril for about a month and it did nothing for me. I did go to the emergency room on 12/30/11 because I hit 169/107 and it wouldn't come down. Now I'm on 4 different meds (Losartan 50 mg, Clonodine .1 mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg, and Hydrathazine 25 mg) twice a day each one. I'm lucky if I get a daily reading of 145/95. With all these meds I get so groggy and I have to take a nap in the middle of the day. The cost of the meds is starting to add up for me, but most of all the concern of a stroke or heart attack. I have treatment tomorrow, I'll see what they say and how they change my dosage around. Again, I'm weighing benefits of Avastin helping me stay in remission vs. the risks.

Let me know what you find
Let me know what you find out you are in my prays and will be from know on. I hate that you are a friend now because of the battle we are fighting but a friend I am. If the avastin is causeing the blood presure and we know pretty much it is maybe they could find another kind of maitance chemo instead of the avastin. You had to look at is it helping me or is it going to kill me staying on it and I would say the numbers you are it I also would worry about the risk. Let me know what happens I have my treatment on Thursday I will be praying for you hope it goes well. Where do you live I am in Glendale AZ?
