Where to start......some good news, some not so good....blood work, as always, perfect...tumor marker number is down 4 points...I'll take it! The nodes that were radiated are way down..but still present...no surprise there....some have shrunk that weren't radiated..but others remain the same...but all are very small.... it could have been worse and could have been better...it is what it is....new plan...he wants me to have a monthly infusion of Zometa for my bones...have no clue about this drug and would greatly appreciate input from those on it...side effects, etc...

Now for the interesting part.....he is going to jump through hoops for me to add Avastin to my Xeloda, of which, he is going to up the dosage...(I have tolerated it really well, so far). ....even though the FDA has pulled it for stage IV.....He went into a lengthy explanation as to why it was pulled...Women in late stages of stage IV (I am not in late stages) were mostly, given Avastin, alone...he went on to explain how Avastin works in conjunction with chemo drugs..way to long to explain here....anyway if he can get it approved I will continue the Xelada, 7 days on 7 days off with Avastin every other week....ugh.....but hey what ever it takes to keep the beast at bay....also if my insurance won't cover the Avastin, the manufacturer will cover the cost....sooo...supposed to start the Zometa probably on Monday...the schedulers had already left for the day, so they will call me tomorrow....Needless to say, I am drained....heading to the shower and pj's.....

Thank all of you for your prayers, words of encouragement, kind sentiments, etc....you mean the world to me!
Hugs, Nancy

ps...sorry they wouldn't valet park the bus...but I "heard" y'all as they told you to "move it!". Lol...and who sprayed the valet guys with pink silly string? They were still picking it off themselves when we were leaving...I innocently asked " what happened ? Then said to my husband "let's get outta here before they realize it was my pink sisters!".

    I was perfectly well behaved!
But we've just got to do something about Traci - she's really getting rowdy.

It sounds like your oncologist is on top of everything and I don't think this sounds like bad news at all. Just sounds like he wants to up his troops a bit and since you've shown you can tolerate the chemo you're currently on, he's giving it an extra punch. Go Avastin!

Hope you continue to tolerate these drugs well and we keep that ugly beast in its cage!

Thanks for updating us on your latest news. Great news about your blood counts! Hopefully the Avastin will do the trick - I'm glad your doctor has approved it for you, given the recent news about it being taken off the market as far as insurance payments go. Take care, and know that we all are thinking about you and praying for you.

Good to hear there is a new
Good to hear there is a new plan of attack. Here's hoping it will do the trick. As far as the silly string....well, I don't squeel on my fellow kindred spirits, but I did see someone carry a very large bag back on the bus after stopping at Target...wonder who? Shower and pj's sounds good to me. Hugs, Judy

at Silly Strings 'R Us stays at Silly Strings 'R Us:)

Nancy, I love love love that your doctor is battling for you. Like you say, good news, less than good, but there's still so much hope and that's like a beautifully wrapped gift under your tree.

I wish you all good things and a fabulous response to the new meds.

    Wow!
It sounds like your doctor really cares. It must be such a relief to know you can depend on him. It's nice to know the manufacturer will cover the Avastin if insurance won't. We look forward to seeing you dance with NED!

    HUGS!!!

How wonderful to have a doc
How wonderful to have a doc that will jump through hoops to do what is right for you. FDA and the insurance companies can be some difficult folks, but it sounds like your doc has some tricks up his sleeve!

I hope you're feeling better this morning after your shower and some rest.

I am always well behaved. Ok, there were a couple of times that the hospital security almost, and I say almost, took me away. lol

    glad to see your post
and see the results from your scan. As you say, some good, some bad, but sounds like your onc has a plan for you to move forward and that's encouraging.

My scan is Dec 29 and I am already getting a bit anxious...want to know how the Xeloda is working.

Hi sweet Nancy -- Thank you for the update. Here praying the new plan can beat the c*#&#^ out of this beast for good, and forever. Glad some things have improved for you, but we'll keep praying and hoping for a full recovery, dancing with NED. I also pray that there's little to no side effects with he new chemo drug. As always, you're in my prayers (and I am feeling very positive for you).

Lots of hugs for you Nancy!!! @>~~~
