Giving Thanks

Hey Gang,

I hope all the Americans on the board have a great Thanksgiving and extend warm thoughts to everyone else here who doesn't live in the US :-)

Despite being diagnosed this year and having periods of being sick as a dog sometimes, I have a lot to be thankful for and have learned a lot about how tough I am, and how strong the people that care about me are.

Thanks to! (in no real order)

My family for rallying around me.
My girlfriend for standing by me.
The doctors, nurses and aides who have kept me alive.
Work - for my coworkers who stay in touch, and for the great medical and disability insurance package that has kept me solvent and relatively healthy.
My neighbors who stop by to see if I need anything.
My friends who keep me laughing.
My dog, who loves salami and me - this one IS in order :-p

I had been thinking of writing something like this for a few weeks. The last of my uncles died this month and his funeral and burial with an Army honor guard really got me thinking. I have a huge Irish family and he was the last male of that generation to go. Luckily the women in my family seem to be indestructable for the most part. I have several aunts in their nineties.

All five of his brothers and my dad and his brother on the other side of the family served in WW2 in various theaters. They all grew up in the depression in rough Philly neighborhoods and enlisted as soon as they were able to. They returned home, went back to school or work and raised big families and mostly migrated to the suburbs. Everyone kept in close touch.

They were truly the "Greatest Generation". As I was growing up though, they were just my uncles and aunts, and mom and dad...

    Happpy Day of Thanksgiving
    There are many blessings that we all have received, even if some days they are overhadowed by the tough stuff.

    One of the best is having this board with caring folks, who while walking their own tough road, will always put out a helping hand to someone else in need of support and encouragement.

    Thanks to all those in my life who made my yesterdays and todays, and for making tomorrow possible.

    Thanks so much for the beautiful message.

    I, too, have much to be thankful for and need to remember that when I get into the poor me's.

    Four of the biggest blessings were here today, all of our grandkids, except for the baby.

    For having cancer, things have gone very well for us, too. Jake has tolerated chemo well, the cancer is cowering from the onslaught so far, and we have met wonderful people through all of this. Including all of you.

    Have a wonderful and blessed day tomorrow--or whenever you celebrate--and please know how grateful I am that you are all here.

    Same to you and you have been through so much this year especially after all you were going through you still had to deal with the storm. So sorry to hear of your uncle, but just wanted to say I'm so proud of your family members that have served in the military. We always should remember them at Thanksgiving as you have in your post. Hoping that the upcoming year is a little less hecktic for you.
