chemo breaks ?

Hi, have not posted for a while, my husband nearly finishing his second line of chemo treatments, oxaliplatin, avastin and xeloda. Has done very well so far but feeling the side effects after cycle 6 a lot more. Last scan shown no malignant ascites in peritoneum, and spot and liver and lung not noticeable on ct scan, very good news. The onc wants my husband to have a 3mth break after 8th cycle, have scan at the beginning and then the end, he has said that there is not cure, but we live in hope. All my love to you all and keep positive.

    Hi Belinda
That's good news. Enjoy the break. Hopefully a "cure" is not far off, but in the meantime we have to stay on top of it. I see you are from England. There is something interesting going on in the way of an upcoming clinical trial at either Leeds or Bradford university in the next year. You may be able to find out more about it. Look up on the internet - autumn crocus cancer, you will see an article about it. There is some good preliminary results and they have already identified a molecule(?) to use to protect the "good" cells. I have a friend who knows a professor at Leeds University so I've asked her to find out what she can. Maybe pass this along to your onc (maybe he needs to know) :)
    Take care.

    Scan
Sometimes scans and chemo breaks are good. I'm hoping that your hubby is going to get some strength from this break so he can go on and get this under control. You are both in my thoughts as your new scan comes up and praying that all is good.

    Good news!
That last link looks really promising as well--oh, for the day when the treatment doesn't feel worse than the disease!

    on a break now
I'm on a chemo break right now. Completed 8 cycles of folfoxfiri. I'm not NED but things seem under control. I *will* have to resume chemo at some point -- I'm having scans every few months to monitor. I am loving the break! Taking full advantage of it and grinning every day. Enjoy yours
