Warm breast and post treatment nipple pealing - did anyone experience this?

Hi everyone,

I am almost 2 months out of radiation. The radiated breast still feels warm, especially after physical activity. In addition to the whole breast being warm, the nipple of the breast have little yellow crusts. Are these still side effects from the radiation or something I should worry about?

All comments are much appreciated.

Eva

I would urge you to get it evaluated
The yellow crusts could be some kind of infection and may need cream or antibiotics to clear up. In any case it is better to get it checked out.

Hi Eva, I am 3 months out from rads, after a long day my breast swells and is hot to the touch, I had a bit of nipple crustie too, but it went away~hope it helps to hear that someone else is experiencing the same, it helped to hear from you. Hang in there, I am told it is all the new normal and could last for a while~uncomfortable~but doing well. Sinee

Eva, Make sure it isn't an
Eva, Make sure it isn't an infection or cellulitis. I have had 3 bouts with it already. The signs are; warm or hot to the touch, pain in the breast, swelling , sometimes a rash. You may also feel sickish; fever, chills or just off. I waited the second time to get it checked and it took a longggg time to clear up. I would go to either your surgeon, rads doctor or oncologist. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Almost 3 months out from rads and...
I have! I love the entire color of my nipples from rads, but it’s back now. However, I developed an infection where my breast felt hot, looks red, swollen and some throbbing pains. Please be sure to check with Drs. And do not let them tell you it’s OK, go home. If you are not happy with one response, go to the next Dr. For me, both onco and surgeon brushed me off saying it was normal, but I went to my rad Dr. and now I am on antibiotics for a month - once every 6 hrs – not fun!

    Hope you feel better.

    Thanks for all the replies
Thanks for all the replies guys! It does not bother me so much as it worries me. The BC breast is bigger than the other breat even though it had a lumpectomy. I'm seeing my MO after thanksgiving and will ask her about it. I have recently started working out th area which hopefully has something to do with it.

    Thanks again.

    Eva, that's how I know I
Eva, that's how I know I have an infection: when that breast gets bigger than the other one. Please keep an eye on it till you go to the MO. If it gets worse don't wait. If it is an infection it takes a long time to clear up if it gets too bad. Good luck and keep us posted!
