Too early to put up Christmas lights?

Funny Costco had Christmas stuff out way before Halloween was even approaching.
Anyway, I get chemo next Wed, and rads are progressing so I'm gonna put them up in the next few days while I know I can and feel like it.

In Canada, our Thanksgiving is in October, so there are no holidays now until Xmas.

I guess my question was rhetorical, lol

    All
All the stores here in AZ have the Xmas stuff out too, they seemed to have skipped Thanksgiving.

Continued good luck and best wishes with the rads and chemo.

    Town Decorations
They have starting to put up several Town Decorations here in Lakeland, Florida....

Street light poles, and other areas...

Although when the temperature during the day is still in the 70's, it seems to distract from the Christmas Holiday mind set, LOL...

    Xmas lights
I got home the week before Xmas last year and decorating was just beyond me and I love decorating for the holiday even tho I think it is over commercial.
I have had the fever to decorate now for about 4 days.....been looking thru all my stuff and even tho we are having Indian summer here in Ohio this weekend might find me putting up lights.
Enjoy the season and do whatever makes you happy!!!

Roger, you get a pass this year. Lol
A bunch of us were just talking about this on FB today. Drives me nuts when they start with Xmas stuff so early. I wish it would just be contained to the season like Black Friday to the Epiphany. Drives me crazy that they start everything the day after Halloween and take everything down the day after Xmas. So much for the actual 12 days of Xmas. It's all about marketing, forget about the actual reason for the season. 8-/

    Whatever makes you HAPPY
I turned the carved pumpkins around yesterday and will leave them up as long as they look fairly decent until Thanksgiving (assuming the rain and slugs don't destroy them!)
If this weekend is dry, I will put up the Christmas lights and I just don't "turn them on" until after Thanksgiving. I figure, hey, if it makes you feel good to have the lights on, go for it!!

    Ladder
Ok, I'm going up the ladder today to put up lights. I'm not doing the 2nd floor eaves though, I stopped doing that a couple of years ago, too dangerous. A big wreath on the window above the doors and I'm done. Just stuff my wife has never done. The tree and house decorations will come out later, probably end of the month, beginning of Dec.

I won't turn them on until December. My neighbors know I'm undergoing treatment and I might not feel good later, they understand.

It's a sunny, warmish day, my girls are excited.

    To have young ones again
Be careful on that ladder. How wonderful to have little ones to get excited about Christmas. I have become jaded after years of consumerism and non Christians influencing the true meaning of the season. I do not even have the desire to do anything this year. Cherish these special days when your children are innocent and filled with that unconditional love and joy of simple things such as Christmas lights. My your family's love and joy continue for untold years.

Blessings to you and your family.

    Certainly Not Too Early!
    Roger:

I love the fact you're going to put up Christmas lights early. I myself will be putting my tree and lights up today. I'm leaving for NC in the morning to do the same for my in-laws and I've got so much going on between now and the 1st week of Dec. So I'm going to get the tree and at least the lights on it today. That way I can take my time decorating it. I decorate a lot for Halloween, T'giving and go all out at Christmas and it does take a while to get all my Christmas dec. out and up. Since the tree is one of the major jobs I try to do it before T'giving and then right after T'giving get the T'giving dec. down and go to town on the Christmas. Have a great time doing it! God Bless!

    Not Too Early
I say do what makes you feel good. I absolutely love Christmas lights and decorations and I am already starting to sort and plan my display for this year. I have had a Christmas Village setup on a tabletop in my basement since September. I find it to be very calming when I am in emotional turmoil. I picture myself wandering the streets of this tiny village and observing all that is going on. I turn off all the room lights and turn on the many lights in the village and I play some soft music and just unwind. I'm sure we all have things that make us feel better, so do what makes you feel good.

    I've often said this...
"It may not be better and it may not be worse, but at this time of year, it's a helluva lot EASIER being Jewish!"

The kids have asked about putting up lights. "It really has nothing to do with Christmas," they argue. But I told them it was strictly against Jewish law. I then threatened my Rabbi if he didn't tell them otherwise. I see my neighbor buddies on their ladders, cursing up a storm every year they have to go through this.

I think the kids are catching on that I'm full of BS. But I'm still going to hold out as long as I can! ;-p

    Putting Up Anything....
LOL, at my house it doesn't matter what I start "putting up"...

Christmas Lights, Christmas Tree or Decorations, hanging ceiling fans, most anything involving tools and construction....

Both my dogs and wife run....LOL, as soon as the tools come out, the dogs ae in their room hiding out, and so is the wife...LOL.

I can't imagine that I get that irritable, but...

    Best,
    John
