Hi Denny, good for you. I took a trip south a few weeks back, and it does get you out of your routine for sure. The most harrowing part of the trip was the Miami airport, steer clear of that and you'll be fine. Have one of those tall shot glasses of tequila for me.

Good Getaway
Have fun Denny, and don't worry about your tube coming out, unless you get into a pick-up soccer game, then it could be a problem. It's always good to get away, and have some rest, relaxation, a change of senery and pace, and an opportunity for re-creation. Bottoms up, as they say.

I will probably go back again next week. I have an office in Mexico and a big project there in Mexico City so I rarely get out of the city itself. But this summer when I had to be there for a couple of weeks my son came down to spend a week with me. He could see how monumentally boring my life is while I am there though I cut back on the 16 hour work days for him. But we did get out for the weekend to a small village up in the hills and this was truly wonderful. We were probably the only gringos there. That was the good.
The bad is that I went back there for the first time last January only a month after finishing treatment. It is true that in that month I had gained back 15 pounds but I was still incredibly weak and sick. I only had partial disability coverage while in treatment and when that runs out you have to go back to work. Two women who work on the project down there took me under their wing and made me food every day, fish and veg and soft stuff because I was barely out of a liquid diet. I would spend the day trying to concentrate enough to work effectively and then go collapse in the hotel. Things are SO much better now that I CAN work those 16 hour days though I'm not sure this is entirely a good thing, eh?
Hondo, I used to have a project there outside of San Pedro Sula and know the area pretty well (as well as Belize and Guatemala and such). I wish I could get back there now. Saludos, Doug0 -

Not only do I love reading about, and have always wanted to see the Egyptian pyramids, but I am also fascinated by the Aztec pyramids in Teoithucan. I love to read about the Mayans, Chichén Itzá in Kukulcán and Palenqué in Chiapas. If I went to Mexico, that is what I'd want to see. Temples and step pyramids and other ancient archeological stuff.0 -

We had been visiting Mazatlan for 8-10 years and truly think of the place as "magical", the people are great, the climate is wonderful, the cost of living can't be beaten and being able to look out over the Pacific ain't too bad either (also the fishing is some of the best in the world, both fresh water and deep sea). Several years ago my wife (without telling me) bought a small house in the historic part of town however we were the only gringos on that street and the locals immediately adpoted us. She recently added a third floor to the house and now I am going down to see what it looks like.
She WAS going to put the house on the market this trip since I am prohibited from spending over 30 consecutive days outside of the US but when she arrived earlier this month she simply couldn't do it.
Didn't personally care that much for Mexico City simply because of the congestion and the altitude however Belize was our second choice after Mazatlan.0 -

It is 100% certain with my disability insurance (Unum) from my company. As you know I had to then apply for SSID and the paperwork I got from them said the same if it is approved. I'll search through the papers and see where/how it is stated. Really put a damper on my plans.
Maybe we can have a CSN reunion down there for 29 days.0 -

The house reminds me so much of the houses I saw in southern (Brindisi) Italy and parts of Spain. They look rough on the outside but blow you away on the inside. Had a chance to get 5 acres of a banana plantation which was directly on the ocean for $12k abou five years ago however there were no utilities available at that time and it was apx 10 miles south of town. Now I wish I'd gotten it just to be able to say "I own something that Chiquita might like" :>)0 -

As a kid I loved that place and back in the 70th you could walk all over the place and no one would hurt you, I would not try that today. Now I go only to the Bay Islands where my Family lives and where I plan to retire someday and do nothing but fishing all day long.
