in Esophageal Cancer #1
Just checking it to see how yesterday went for your husband. . . thoughts and prayers your way.

    Thank you for your concerns.

    Original tumor down 50%, lymphs down 60%. Now what I think is the real issue. Liver slightly larger. Doctor claims could be lesions could have grown between scan and chemo. Scan and chemo were about a month apart, we didn't do the scan within the week of chemo because my husband passed out during consultation and was in the hospital for a couple of days and had port put in and started chemo right away.

    So, As Sherri advised I asked about the theraspheres, he gave the quickest NO. Well, why not? he says they do it for primary liver cancer. For some really stupid reason at the time I thought this was OK! What happened next was exactly what I thought would happen. I leave the office and the questions are just coming out too fast for me to write down!

    Now I have gone back and read Sherri's response and she said IF the cancer was stable. Could this have been a reason to the NO the doctor gave? What does cancer being stable mean? Does this mean its pointless to do if the cancer cells are still flowing throughout his body? I also read about the chemoembolisation and hepatic artery infusion. Some of these things sound like such easy fixes when you read about them.

    Also, it seems right now his esophageal cancer isn't so much the issue as the liver cancer is. Is this somewhat right? or am I totally off? I have read that most chemo's don't work on liver, and its rare for lesions on the liver to shrink, or if shrink to stay that way. Well, doesn't that pretty much suck!

    I am so frustrated for not understanding this cancer or any cancer for that matter! Sorry to sound so harsh.

    Theraspheres
    I had the Theraspheres treatment when my EC was stable and almost gone. A biopsy at the time could not find any live esophageal cancer cells in the esophagus tumor. So basically, it could be said that at the time, the liver lesions were the primary cancer.

    Unfortunately, the Theraspheres did not achieve the desired result. The lesions in the liver did not shrink as was to be expected.

    The EC came back in the esophagus and now I am on a different chemotherapy cocktail - Erbitux and Irinotecan.

    Thanks for the input. Feeling much better today. Trying to teach myself to grateful for today and not consume my days with what will be. So, as I continue to live for the day, I am very happy and grateful my husband is doing so well today.

    When and IF the cancer ever becomes stable,I will worry about the theraspheres then.
