Update on Dad, he had the MIE on Friday, Oct. 7 surgery was from 6:45-3:00 pm. Dad was off the ventilator after surgery “what a positive sign”, they didn’t have a bed in ICU for dad so he said in the recovery area , I think until 11:00 pm (we left at 9:30 pm he was still there). Dad was doing wonderful!

Day after surgery (Sat), we were at the hospital by 9:15, they put dad in the chair to sit up so they could move him to another floor. Wrong!!! Wrong!!! Dad’s heart rate increase and oxygen decrease, oh boy! What is happening? They need to do a chest x-ray and informed us he needs a CT scan of the lungs, could be a collapsed lung or blood clots. After dad’s test they informed us he has pulmonary embolism in both lungs one side is quite large and the other half the other side. So dad, is in icu with concentrated oxygen, heparin and other meds. They didn’t want him to move yesterday, just lay in bed until the heparin becomes therapeutic.

Today (Sunday), they put dad back in the chair for sitting up. Heart rate is still a little crazy today, oxygen is still the same!
So prayers are needed that his body will dissolve the clots and I thank god he was in Icu on all the monitors because if he was on the other floor at wouldn’t of been notice. God was watching over him!

We are all pretty exhausted here, staying quite a bit at the hospital. My brother and I have to head back to Chicago on Tuesday, but my mom and sister will still be here.

Please say lots of prayers!
Carolyn

    You got em!
I don't have any personal experience with the whole surgery thing. It always sounds horrific and something always goes wrong, but in the end it nearly always works out just fine and pretty soon your husband/father is outside putting up Christmas decorations! I hope the rest of it goes well.

    Prayers!
    Carolyn,

I will be praying for a miracle for you and your family. I will be praying for a guardian angel to be sent to look over your father and help his body rid itself of these clots!

I will also be praying that you and your family be given plenty of strength to make through these hurdles. He has made it through the surgery, now just to work out the bugs. I am so grateful to hear he made it through the surgery! No small miracle there and no doubt you guys had his guidance through the monitors! So glad to hear that the clots were caught and meds are being administered to get him through this. Be strong and know we are praying for you and your family!

    Bless you!

    Carolyn, Praying for quick
Carolyn, Praying for quick recovery. We all pray for an uneventful surgery, but even the MIE is still very serious. I had the Ivor Lewis-did very well with recovery, but did have some serious complications in the hospital.
I agree, it was good that he was still in ICU. Keep us updated.
    Hugs and prayers,
    Sandra

    Prayers coming your way!!
    Carolyn,

Post surgery complications are certainly frightening. Your dad is in the right place to have them addressed. I am sure they will be watching him very closely over the next few days.

I will be praying that the heparin does its job and your Dad is feeling better soon.

    Best Regards,

Praying for your dad and for your family, and you...
    Carolyn,
Don't know how much comfort it is, but I have noticed that almost everyone who has had surgery recently posted that the first time they sat up, they had SOME type of heart rate issue that came up. I am sorry to hear about the clots. I know they also seem to come with this form of cancer. Nasty mean old cancer.

We are praying for your father, and for you and the family, for strength, and for those two clots to just dissolve away, please. He deserves a break and a peaceful recover. Hopefully he will have it after this bump.

We are ALL here for you, thinking about you, group prayers headed your way.
I have faith that dad will pull through and this will be one of those bumps in the road that you can post about as part of the whole picture in the weeks to come. That's my prayer for you anyway.

Thinking about you. Hoping you all get some well needed rest and regain your strength to be there with your dad.

God bless you and hold you through this.
We are certainly glad he was still in/near ICU as well!

Positive thoughts & Prayers to you
    Carolyn,

I'm so pleased that your dad is receiving attentive care. He's in a good place if there had to be complications. And you're right - very blessed that he was still in the ICU when the issues arose. Someone's looking out for your family ;-)

We will watch for positive updates. Take care of yourselves and allow the hospital to worry about your dad. Our surgeon told me that my husband was his worry while he was in the hsopital - I could take that worry over when we went home. Leave your worries at the door and know that God & the fine hospital staff will care for your father.
