Bladder problems

Hubby's having problems with his bladder. Scan shows the bladder has stretched and is
causing some blockage. Still in the hospital but they are sending him home with a catheter
and a bag strapped to his leg. Apparently the rectal tumor pushed on the bladder and
caused it to extend out of shape. Dr thinks and hopes the chemo will shrink the tumor and the bladder will go back to normal, but not sure. I am sincerely hoping that he will not
have to have the catheter the rest of his life, (already has a colostomy). Has anyone on this site had any experience with a
bladder problem like this and will it correct itself? Would be nice to know that maybe that would get better. It seems that cancer destroys the body piece by piece!!!
Thanks, Brenda

    Hey Brenda
It does seem logical that the bladder will work normally again. I wouldn't worry. I know -easier said than done. It seems like our patience is tested every which way.

Sure, when he was first dx
Sure, when he was first dx with stg 4 rectal w/ mets to liver in 09, they felt he should
get started on chemo asap. The plan was to shrink the tumor enough to operate. It did
shrink and they did a rectal tumor fulgaration some months later, then liver oblasions. In January 11 it was discovered that the tumor had come back, they did a diversionary (?) colostomy, said he
was not physically able to endure the operation for the complete rectal removal, he was in
the hospital for 6 weeks with this operation.
The cancer has increased in his liver and lymph nodes so they needed to be able to start chemo again. He doesn't heal very quickly from procedures, he is diabetic. So they are limited on giving chemo if he has not healed from an operation. Now the rectal tumor is giving more problems.
Seems like if it can happen, it happens. He is still in the hospital, now with wheezing
as well as the bladder problems. He went in last sunday for 2 units of blood for the
operation on Monday to revise the colostomy and remove the collapsed port. He was supposed
to come home last Tuesday, but still there.
Does any of this make since? Thanks, Brenda

    Brenda,
It does. He is between a rock and a hard place.

I have no words of wisdom here, it is completely out of my depth.

I do offer my thoughts, and hope for the best for both of you,

    Blake
