You are all wonderful!

You made me cry and crying as you know hurts as well. I have never had so many people understand. You are all amazing. I will do my best and try one day at a time.

I didn't know you could put prune juice or anything other than the enjevity (which comes up into my throat somehow and has an awful taste. I was embaressed to say I haven't used
the ladies room in 3 days.

Pain meds - on fentenal patch but it's on 25mg so I don't notice any kind of relief from the pain but the did order me Tylenol with codeine. I just called the doctor and they
told me I could put that in my feeding tube. I would have never asked if it hadn't been for all of you.

You all understand! That to me is the most wonderful part.

I feel bad and then think of all the children with cancer at St. Jude's and then that
makes me feel even worse because I'm even thinking about the why me part. I am afraid of narcotics as I never even basically take aspirin but at this point I'm ready to ask.

Thank you all for your responses I never even expected to get one and to know you are all there somehow gives me hope.

I don't know any of you but I sincerely tank you from te bottom of my heart. I will try your suggestions and with this community that I've been so fortunate to find I ope to make it through.

Lilwriter.

    You will make it through.
You will make it through. Keep a positive out look and do not be afraid of the narcotics, they are easy to stop. The docs are not going to give you addicts dose by any means. Do whatever it takes to get through the treatment. You will survive this. Praying for you.

    back at cha!
Oh, just don't be afraid to ask questions and also question authority!
I had alot of throwing up after my first chemo. I had the drugs but the bottle said to take when feeling nausea so I assumed that meant after getting sick to take them.
I asked the radiation tech the next morning and she set me straight. Take them after your first chemo before you get sick...that way you are ahead of the game.
There are so many things to learn thru this journey. You are on here at a good time, during treatment and not afterwards.
We all have stories and tips and hints to share and love for our fellow fighter!
Dry your tears and take more meds and sleep well. I too didn't want to take the meds for fear of addiction but trust me, when you feel you won't need them anymore you can taper off. I take nothing now...not even Aleve.
    keep on posting.
    Peace

    pain
Ditto...take the pain meds or whatever gets you through because it will get better. 25 mcg is low dosage to start. You may need to go up and then you can taper down when the time is right. We never had any doctor act as if the meds were unnecessary or make us feel like drug addicts. I also remember being told that you should stay on top of pain and not let it get ahead of you.
    Best wishes,
    Robinleigh

    We've All Been There
In some form and one way or another....

Like mentioned, don't be afraid of the meds....even if you were to develope a problem with them. You need to make it through surviving treatment first, worry about the meds later.

As a side note, most of the time if you take the drugs as prescribed and for the level of pain that you have you're OK.

    Thoughts & Prayers,
    John

We are all one big family here and you are now part of that family. A lot of us long timer stay here to help others who are just getting started because we knew how it was for us to have no one to talk too about our cancer when we were the ones just starting.

Glad to have you with us

That's how the folks here helped me get through my treatments - some of the names have changed since I started coming here, but the site's still full of wonderful people. Oh - and on the not using the facilities - it made most of us crazy from day to day playing the guessing game on whether we'd have diarrhea, constipation, or something closer to "normalcy" during treatment.

I remember so well feeling sorry for myself and then going to the clinic everyday and seeing people (including children) who appeared to be so much worse off than me. That brought me back to reality - I was hoping there wasn't someone there looking at me and thinking the same. The proper attitude can't be stressed enough.

Concerning what you can put down your tube - if it can be pulverized it can go down the tube. I also bought a little thing that allows me to cut up and crush my medicines as well and I send them through the tube.

Warning: Before you pour a beer down your tube let it get flat otherwise you get a head of beer foaminmg out of the syringe...lesson learned the hard way.

    Hey Lilwriter
Emotions are a big part of this curing process.....sometimes anger, sometimes sorrow, and finally jubilation that it is all done and you can get back to the "new normal" life that we all face her on CSN....
You are a strong, giving and caring person. I can tell by the writing. You just need to be there for your kids and stay strong....you'll feel like crap for awhile, but then "slowly" you'll start to feel good again, not perfect, but good.
I am 18 months post and I am a happy man and thankful as we all are....
you come here anytime and we'll give you moral support. We'll also let you yell at us if you like. Remember to get all the food in your PEG tube as possible, keep your strength up. That is super important and stay hydrated. I got IV of saline for 6 weeks to keep me hydrated and it helped me immensely....
    all the best to you,
    Steve

    Funnel

I did not think about that, better yet just hook his tube into the beer barrow with a flow gauge and let it go.

:+) makes for one happy man

Folks don't like to mention constipation but you need to know from the voice of experience. Yes it is embarassing, humilating but worst of all it is extremely painful when you have to go to the Dr for an impacted bowel. If you are 100% on your tube I would recommend that at least every other day if not everyday you mix up muxinex (or its generic brand) and pour down that tube. You need to start yesterday if you haven't been in three days.

    Denny

That is one of my biggest problems, I can go up to 6 days with out a bowel movement and when I do get one it is very painful. I drink a lot of water and eat a lot of fiber but still nothing, so now I am on Yogurt trying to put back all the good bacteria into my intestines.

I was talking to Chief Daddy Mike the other day who has had very bad problems with constipation. He told me none of the medicines worked on him, then one day he took a beer and drank it and the next day was pooping like normal. He now’s drinks two beers a day and has not been having too much problems in that area anymore, I am thinking about trying some O’Dules and see if it helps me.

    Thanks
