I always could eat a good Salad & Red Beans with out drinking water but I never tried to eat anything else that way for fear of chocking. Well this morning I just found out I can eat my Oatmeal with out taking a sip of water between each bite; it has a hold new taste that way. Sometime we get so use to doing something a cretin way for so long we fear to try it a different way.

I would like to know what you can eat with out sipping water between each bit. This might help all of use who are water dependence on eating.

Things I can eat without Sipping Water:

1. Salads
2. Red Beans with out rice
3. Oatmeal

Thanks everyone:

    Soup
Soup with Magic Mineral Broth as the base. (Put Magic Mineral Broth in search, Rebecca Katz is the Chef).
    Tapioca
    Smoothies
    Canned peaches
Chow Mein that seems to have sauce, one place in town makes it. I was never pregnant but my hubby is driving cross town (not really very far) to get it for me!

I cannot eat salad easily, is it the teeth or lack of saliva?
I am going to try a salad made with steamed veggies (again, Rebecca Katz recipe)

Husband keeps cooking and I keep trying to eat :)

    I havent really thought
I havent really thought about it but i dont really drink a lot of water when i eat. We went to red lobster the other night and i ate a baked potato, some crab legs and some shrimp scampi and drank about a fourth of a glass of water. Maybe it was the butter? i think ill start paying attention and make a list of what requires water and what doesnt.

    BANANAS
Believe it or not, Bananas seem to be easy to eat...I usually swallow water after it to clear out my mouth, but they seem to go down fairly easy....
Also, yogurt, cottage cheese, soups, which all make sense.

    Not much for me...
I need to have my milk with dinner or forget it. I've tried, even just with water and it ain't pretty.

I can get down a banana, avocado, and yogurt with out a drink. That's about it. I cannot get oatmeal down without milk. Though I have had banana get stuck. Sheesh.

    Hi Steve
I can’t get a Banana half way down with out a water chaser, that is incredible that you have no problem with them, I am all for the yogurt, just love the stuff.

Did I say how much milk I put in my oatmeal, ops, I do use quite a lot, it just makes it all the better. Avocado is my favorite food, I have 8 trees in my back yard in Honduras and my brother has 16 trees on the farm. I eat them till they comes out of my ears and then go back for seconds with a mango or two.

    Hi Teacher
Cream of wheat I have not tried that but will put it on my list, sound like it would be something that would taste really good. I am with you on the Soups and Smoothies but Peaches will not go down by them self’s.

It is amazing how some of us can eat cretin things and others can’t

    Thanks

    Hi akotke
You are one of the lucky ones and I am very glad for you to not have to have this water bottle by your side all the time.

Take care and thanks for your post

Hondo, wish I could grow avocados here (Kentucky). Every time you mention them, I get a craving - at the grocery yesterday, they were charging two bucks for one avocado. Since I'm the only one here who'll touch them, I did without.

    What's with the Salad?
I'll have to start paying attention - I still drink a lot with meals, but I do know there are several foods I can eat without a lot of water. Salad is NOT one of those foods - it took me a long time to be able to eat salad, and I still need lots to drink when I have salad.

    I still cannot swallow
I still cannot swallow salad. I'm not crazy about lettuce and I would probably expend more calories trying to chew it and swallow it anyway, so I figure, why bother? ;-)

Would be awesome to grow avacodos, no way they'd grow here.

    about the oatmeal.....
It may just be a regional thing, but around these parts, some people prepare oatmeal with water, and you add the milk after its cooked, and some prepare it with the milk in it as they cook it. the kind with the milk cooked in is a little more sticky. I make it point to ask before i order oatmeal for breakfast at a restaurant, because it takes more water to get it down.

There is not a lot that i can eat without water, or sweet tea. Another regional thing, Around here we grow up on sweet tea, like germans on beer. I guess you could call it a southern ethnic kinda thing. LOL

    About the oatmeal....
Then you have me. That doesn't use water or milk. I use home made chicken broth and then add stuff like garlic, green onions, light soy and sautéed mushrooms and even a tiny bit of ginger. Uh-huh. It's so good. Don't knock it till you try it.

    What happened to bananas?
Bananas? I still enjoy the flavor, but when did they get SO DRY? I need a water or milk chaser or they stop half way down.

Foods I can eat without a water chaser - sliced cucumbers. Steamed green beens with butter. Sauteed shrimp with butter. Butter.

    foods without water
I find most salads and veggies go down without water or milk. Milk works better than water for me.
I can do cereal but not mixed with milk, have to drink the milk. The soggy cereal sticks!
Some veggies don't work; brussel sprouts and a few others. I think it is that they are thin and too soft a texture. Cukes, asparagus and others like that go down fine.
I cooked a pork tenderloin the other day and my mouth was watering just thinking about eating it. I overcooked it just a tad (I like medium rare) and it was hard to get down but I gave it the old college try. I ended up making gravy and drenched it in that and down it went.
I was and am a foodie and work part time for a high end caterer so getting my taste buds back was HUGE for me. I just keep trying different foods and figure each time I eat something new (or try to eat something new) is an adventure.
I credit having therapy for two months with enabling me to eat so well. For all those who have swallowing issues, talk with a speech therapist before giving up. I had three swallow tests and the last compared to the first was amazing! Bless all those who help us get thru our struggles. I am forever grateful.
    Peace,

    I can eat...
    Hi Hondo!

I can eat these with ease, without a sip of water: any soup based meal; oatmeal w/ more milk (than the usual mix); soft juicy fruits; yummies like yogurt, ice cream :); turnips, cucumber.

I am really water-dependent as I've tried eating some food without a sip and it got stuck in my throat, literally. Sometimes, even a sip of water isn't enough to push the food down.
Every now and then, I still try, though. That's the only way we would know our limitations.

Thanks for sharing. Take care. Blessings to you and everyone!
