mom is gone

Mom passed away suddenly this afternoon. We believe she had some type of CVA, likely caused by a blood clot. Her left leg had swollen to 3 times its normal size, a complication post surgery this past week.

I cannot even begin to describe the utter loss I feel, the hopelessness..this grief is consuming me. She died with all five of us there, tuching and holding her. It was very quick and she was unaware.

Thank you all for the advice and the kindess these past months.

I am so sorry for your loss. How wonderful that you were able to be there at the end , It sounds like she went quickly and painlessly. I lost my mom 2 yrs ago (uterine cancer) and It still hurts. I came here looking for answers. I still don't have any but I have found a wonderful group of people who are kind and caring and who truly understand.
Big hugs and prayers for you and your family at this difficult time

It has been a really hard
It has been a really hard few days. We have everything in order for her final arrangements. Honestly? We knew it was bad, but we had not planned anything for her and so we have had to do this all on the fly. My siblings and I feel as though we are lost on a stormy sea, being tossed about. Her funeral has turned into this huge to do and we are overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of love and greif for our mom.

I just wanted to thank all of you again, you were all kind and so supportive. You made this tough time somehow easier to bear. I finished a letter to mom and i want to share it with you ladies (and gents). The font and script are being changed, its being displayed at her viewing/funeral service. I am also going to link to the funmeral home, her obituary is on top, Aleta Hooper. http://www.vermeulenfuneralhome.com/n/obituaries.htm

    Mom-

I hope you know how much we loved you, will always love you. We watched you go and all of us felt the shift, our world tilted. Now we wonder how we are going to make it right again. Looking around me I see people going on with life, something we will have to do without you and I’m not sure any of us know how we will do that yet. How do we get through the coming months and years?

There were so many things mommy, because all of us thought there was still time. We wanted to tell you things, to ask you things. How will we ever have summer without you making potato salad? What about family potlucks without your noodles? I don’t know how to make butterscotch pie and you have gone away without telling me. We were supposed to make strawberry jam. I wanted to watch you make peas and taters, to see you in the kitchen doing all of those wonderful things that only seemed to know how to do.

Cancer is such a scary, awful disease and it wasn’t fair you had to fight again. We had to watch you bear up under the enormous strain. You were so brave, so stoic about it all. You took all of it in stride and you never really stopped having hope for your miracle.

We are so very proud of you and your life, your legacy really is the five of us and the amazing job you did raising us on your own. We want people to remember you for the wonderful woman you were. The way your smile lit up a room and how much people loved to be with you. When people talk about you it will be with love and laughter, because you knew how to turn a phrase and make even the mundane funny.

We are all going to be ok, so don’t worry about us to much. You did your job and it made us strong and resilient. We all know you would have chosen to stay and be with us for a while longer, but sometimes the plan gets changed.

Mom, thank you for being who you were, thank you for every moment you gave to the keeping and care of your 5 children. We are better people for that and you being here made the world a much better place to be.

    With Love,

Lisa, Anita, Anna, Joe and Fred

    so sorry
The letter to your mom is beautiful. I set here now with tears flowing. I am so very sorry for your loss...but I don't think there is any words that can help. I lost my dad 4 yrs. ago and that was so very hard. My mom is battling stage 4 ovarian now and just found out it is back today. I know when the time comes losing her will be 10 times harder then my dad. I will send up some prayers for you and your family. Take care and God bless.
