Excess mucus- when does it start to subside?

    Try using a Sinus rinse like NeilMed and look for Sweet superthred it has a lot of good information that will help him.

    From the many past threads we have had, I think the average is 4-6 months. Course the old standard applies, "Everyone is different."

    I agree with sweet it takes a while and no two people are alike but it does get better. I like most people here still have issues with mucus but it is at a point I can live with by washing and rinsing everyday.

    Treatment
    My last treatment was in 2005, I am now 6 years out from last radaition and chemo, my first treatment was in 2003.

    I am in the twotimes club. lol

    Mucus versus saliva
    Didn't take me very long to figure out that the mucus was the only thing keeping my mouth moist. Ick, I know, but when the mucus subsided (weeks and weeks later) was when I became as dry as the sahara.

    Also noted that, as I was healing, the mucus pretty much had a mitigating effect on the throat pain, at least for me. I didn't need much in the way of pain meds.

    Hi,

    My dad has excessive mucous I read about the transderm scop patch to help this. I also read the side effects and am not sure whether to try it. Do you have any opinion as to this patch to help the mucous or are the side effects worse?

    Hi Michelle
    the transderm scop is a judgment call. If left on for a few days, everyone gets side effects. Those vary from just being a little disoriented to frankly looney. OTOH, these effects disappear pretty quickly if you just take the patch off. So, call it the way you see it. Scopalamine is a drying agent. How does it work for this?
