OK ...some levity...

We took off on Thursday to spend labor day weekend at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale in advance of my surgery on the 8th. My 15 year old son had his nose buried in a book for the whole plane ride. He was reading "Presumed Innocent". I was very impressed, because he is not usually a reader. In any case, today I started asking him some questions about the book, and had no idea about the plot or anything.

I grabbed the book from him and the jacket came off, only to reveal the real book..."Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang"...probably the dirtiest book ever written by a comedian. The fake book jacket was a stroke of genius!

That's why I'm going through with the surgery! I have a very strong feeling that this is just the beginning of a long list of reasons why I need to keep an eye on this kid! If I'm lucky enough to get through it, I'd live on birdseed and water to see him graduate.

We fly back tomorrow and I might give him something a little less fun to read. (I may read the one he had...). Considering what we are coming back to, maybe I'll let him off the hook...We needed this trip.

    LOL
Jeff, thanks for the laugh. Definitely let him off the hook, we expect a book report from you within the next couple weeks. Never heard of that book, but it sounds very informative. I'm sure it will be good company as you recover from your surgery. Best wishes for speedy healing, and years of keeping your eyes on your son.

Thanks for the good wishes! Chelsea Handler is a comedian who has a late night show on the E network, which is part gossip and part comedy. She has three to four comics on every night and they do a roundtable about the day's events. Then she does a 5 minute fluff interview with a B list celebrity. She will eventually have her own show on a "real" network. Her other book titles are

I assume you live in London? We were there a few years ago and had a blast. The exchange rate was terrible, though. We loved Westminster Abbey and all the vendors around the London eye. We also did the trip to Shakespeare's house...(If he didn't really live there, please don't tell me!)

Here's hoping for the best possible outcomes for all of us!

Jeff, we are in London, but not London England. We are in London, Ontario, Canada, about 2 hours outside of Toronto.

I suppose Chelsea Handler is a lot tamer than some of the stuff he could be reading..... Still, love his style. Genius idea to use a book cover! Wish I'd have thought of that when I was that age!

    Needed that laugh
Pretty advanced reading for a 15 year old. I believe her first book was titled "Chelsea Handler: My Horizontal Life", I read that one a few years before I even knew who she was. Her show is pretty funny, she might have a problem breaking into mainline networks though with her material. I personally think your son is a genius, a sneaky genius...haha!

Also wanted to tell you to eat, eat, eat, while you are on vacation. My Jeff had to start his clear liquid diet today, so far he has had 3 popcicles, an icee, an italian ice, and chicken broth, orange jello is lined up for dessert....yum!

We also took some vacation time, we went to Hershey Park and the Poconos and Jeff ate ate ate. He had lobster everyday for four straight days!!

    Enjoy FLA.

    Jeff That's great thanks!
Thank you for the good laugh! Nothing like teenage ingenuity!
I applaud his efforts and your composure. I am glad to hear that the trip did EVERYONE so much good and it sounds like a complete success.
We will be praying for you as you go under and hope for a great post-report and a speedy recovery thereafter.
Thanks again for sharing a good belly laugh with us all. I for one needed that!

Sending calm and success your way now,

    Ive been eating, all right!
Niki- I have been eating incredible amounts of food since my surgeon told me not to go below 195 or I had to use my feeding tube. I was about 198 (down from about 212).. about a month after diagnosis when he told me this...chemo and radiation slowed me down some, but my post vacation/pre surgery weight is officially more than I have ever weighed in my life! In fact, I have decided that it is now classified! It's a BIG number! (217).

Good luck to you and your jeff this week! I only have one fast day on Wednesday. By then, Xanax will be my only food group!

    We needed the giggle
    Jeff,

Thanks for sharing your son's stroke of genius. I'll have to take a look for that book. Sounds *interesting* :-P LOL

Like you, Nick is eating to gain right now. He's eating everything he can get his hands on - and loving it! Which helps me.

Only 1 day of fasting? I know Nick envy's you. Nick will have both Tuesday and Wednesday eating more like Niki's Jeff than you :)

Best wishes to all - and thanks again for the smile!

    Hi Jeff,
So much good luck wished for the 8th and hope for the very best outcome. Thanks for the laugh, that kid is creative and smart!!!! I know my motivation to go on is to see my son sweating out 2 teenage girls, now 13 and 14 and it is only starting. They know so much more than we did back when. Take care and laughter is the best medicine ever. Prayers coming your way.
