My husband is grubbing and had his first beer in 6 months

My husband is the grub monster. He is going to town on some food. He even tried a beer the other day and enjoyed it. He still has trouble with dry foods, but for the most part he is getting his main nutrition by mouth and supplementing with the peg tube on days his mouth hurts too bad. Not to crazy about the beer, but he just wanted to see if he could have one with his buddy and it worked. But,I am happy he only had the one. I really dont want to see him drinkning again. He was not a lush by any means, but he did have a beer or 2 after work most of the time. Hopefully we can break that habit.

    Yeah, I don't blame you
Yeah, I don't blame you there. I wouldn't be happy about the beer part. Food part is great!

I wanted a drink the other day, just a little frozen drink with Bailey's, but I didn't. I only have a couple drinks a year now. Like for my birthday. I'm just not willing to take the risk. I think last year, I had five drinks. This year so far, I had one. I had it when I went to my first restaurant dinner in two yrs. It was a b'day for a family member and we went to The Olive Garden and I had a chocolate almond amoré. Yum.

    Yep, you are exactly right.
Yep, you are exactly right. He is starting to feel normal again, and I think having the beer was just a confidence builder that he is on the road to recovery.

    Beer Up!
As John said, feeling normal again is huge. Your choice now, to drink or not to drink. That is a great feeling to have choices again instead of "sorry can't".
    Enjoy life

Don't Let Him Get to Confident Though...
Don't forget though, smack him a lick on the back of the noggin in a day or so and make sure he get's back to work though...LOL.

    Beer

I was talking to Chef daddy Mike the other night and he was telling me that the only thing makes him go to the bathroom is two beers the night before. I guess there is got to be something in it after all that makes us un-normal people normal again.

    BEER AND FOOD
Going to my first baseball game in over a year. Cards VS Brewers, and I intend to sample the fare. A cold AB product and a Hotdog.

    YUM!!

    Is this beer day?
Roger posted about beer too. I like to have a nice organic Samuel Smith now and then. The organic part makes me feel ok about it and the alcohol part makes me feel ok about everything else. I'm so glad to read he's doing better. Congratulations on making it through.

    beer
Jim's request for first meal out is a beer and fish sandwich at our favorite dive in Flagler Beach. It's a shack called Snack Jacks. That's when we will feel normal again.

    Occasional cold one never hurts.

    Cheers

I am ready for a cold one.
I am ready for a cold one. Sure do miss our Friday date nights.. A cold beer after a hard week of working and an appetizer is the way to end the week.

    Coming Soon

Give it a little more time and it will be like old times again, sounds like the husband is going great and moving forward with his new normal.

    Beer
Hooray for your hubby! Nice to do something normal, huh? Buzz can't manage beer or anything remotely spicy. It is ironic too as New Mexico has the best Mexican food (in my humble opinion). Glad to hear he is doing so well. Karen

Did you think you would possibly be writing this
... a couple of months ago? I do remember when we were all writing those encouraging "we know you can do it" messages. And we remember when you were in the absolute depths just a few weeks ago when you weren't sure you could make it. And here you are on the other side looking for food and having the occasional cold beer. The resilience and determination of people is amazing and we see it every day here. Congratulations. Doug

    I remember
A few weeks back when the concern was him eating/drinking anything ! This is great news Arndog. Cheers to that.. (I don't currently have a beer, but next time I do, I will think of you two!)

    Hi Ray

Positive thinking and a good attitude will help in the healing effects to your body. Normally when you are finish with Rad & Chemo it will take a few months for your body to get over the effects and the taste starts to come back right around that time.

    Wishing you the best

    Ray~
More than likely by April you should be fine and good to go.

Of course that's all depending on your treatment and how well you recover. Most of us have treatment in the 3 - 4 month range, adding another month for working out the things still going on from rads usually...

Then it's just a slow process of getting taste to start comingback, saliva to start flowing again...both of which can take several months.

It took well ovr a year for me to get a lot of both back. But I did have improvements starting just a month or so post treatment.

You might have to trial and error on taste for several months, but there should be enough for you to figure out what's working best for you at the time.

    Best,
    John
