Diagnostic Tests are FINALLY completed

Well, after what seems like months worth of testing, the diagnosis is finally made. I had 2 liver biopsies and the first one was benign; however, the second one shows a small tumor that is consistent with my breast cancer. So, I was offered to take part in a clinical trial but have decided not to, at least in this one. The one suggested is a Phase 1 which means the experimental drug is in the testing phase for safety as well as effectiveness. There are only 18 people in this trial which seems like a very small number to me. Plus, the information I was given shows this study as one for Triple Negative Mestastatic BC. I am not triple negative, I am ER positive. So, needless to say, I have many questions regarding this recommendation. I am definately not opposed to taking part in a trial but I want one that has already passed the drug safety tests and is being tested on a large group of various types of BC. I may be dreaming. I have not actually spoken with the nurse who will address my questions, I am waiting for her call. I may just end up going the route of traditional treatment. I have the most common type of BC, invasive ductal carcinoma, and there are decades worth of information out there and results of various treatments. I am now considered a Stage IV due to the metastasis and per my oncologist, surgery is typically not done on Stage IV persons. So, that's all I know right now but will post again once I know my treatment plan.

I am really doing just fine and am anxious to get treatment going. I was diagnosed for the third time 60 days ago. The thing that is really odd is that I have probably not felt better physically, I continue to exercise 5 days a week and am never sick (knock on wood). I have absolutely no symptoms of the cancer now in my liver. I guess that is a good thing and can be attributed to it being caught very early.

So, anyone with experience or information, I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

So sorry to hear that the biopsy was positive.
I can understand not participating in a trial that is for a different diagnosis and also one without many results to date. I am so glad that it was caught early before symptoms set in. I asked about liver mets and was told that if it is caught early enough, that it may be possible to use gamma knife radiation to zap tumors. But as we all know, each treatment plan is different, depending on the oncologist.

I am sending prayers and wishing you the best possible outcome.

    Good to see your post
Happy about the one biopsy being benign, not happy about the other :( I understand how you feel about the clinical trial. I don't think I would participate in it either being it has just started with no results or anything.

So happy to know that you are doing and feeling so well Debbie. And, thank God this was caught early.

I don't have any experience to share with you, but, I am sending you lots of hugs, prayers and strength!

Do keep updating us Debbie as you know we all love you and worry about you.

So sorry about you being in
So sorry about you being in the fight again. While I think that clinical trials are great I agree that at this stage I would not wish to participate in one that is so new and has no results. I hope that there will be other better options for you. I will hold you in my prayers and best thoughts.

I am sorry to hear about the second biopsy being cancer. I will be praying for you along with Laurissa. We are getting bad news today and still some don't have their tests back. Prayers to all who are going through a ordeal with this beast.

I understand not wanting clinical trials. They don't know if they will work but your doctors will know something that worked for others. At a visitation the other night I believe the family wasn't sure about trials on new drugs.

See what the next plan is with your doctors and let us know. You're in our Thoughts and Prayers.

Debbie, I'm so sorry that the 2nd biopsy didn't come with good news. The clinical trial does sound iffy, so, I would probably pass on it just like you did.

I know your oncologist will come up with a good treatment plan for you.

I am very sorry, I still cannot believe it.I am glad that you feel good and strong physically and I am very impressed and amazed by how well and positive do you sound.
As far as clinical trial phase I, it means that it will be first time the medication will be evaluated on humans. That is why it is a very small group and safety data is limited. You are absolutely correct, you do have other options, and hopefully your new oncologist will offered an effective treatment plan for you.
