Blood clots

Has anyone been diagnosed with blood clots in their lungs from chemo? I was on chemo for 18 weeks with taxol/carbo (carbo every 3 weeks/with taxol), towards the end I had a hard time catching my breath after doing anything. My ct scan revealed no sign of decease but the radiologist spotted a blood clot so I had to go back in and have a chest ct which revealed several blood clots in my chest. I'm now on coumadin and had to have lovenox shots for two weeks. The radiologist said it was caused from the chemo. Since I've been on the meds I can now go up steps without gasping for breath.

    I have been having some shortness of breath with this HEAT.
    I notice that I have shortness of breath with even mild exertion (like bringing in a bag of groceries) since it has been so incredibly hot here (in the high 90's). At the beach a week ago, when I would try and jump the waves with my granddaughter, I would quickly run out of steam and feel like my lungs were only half filling with air. My husband made me stop going into the deeper surf after he saw the big waves I used to be able to jump over or outrun, knock me down and drag me back to shore over and over. I was disappointed that I didn't feel confident to walk a couple miles in the heat with the grandkids to go shopping or for an ice cream, but I was afraid I would pass out, so it did impact my vacation somewhat.

    I put my shortness of breath down to my slightly low RBC, but on July 12th they did an extra-fine-screen CT scan of my lungs looking for a possible blood clot. It didn't turn up anything, but I know they will be watching closely if this continues. Clots must be more common than we think for those of us who have had a lot of chemo. It's the first 'symptom' I have ever had & I was glad that they didn't find mets to my lungs or a blood clot. But I do wonder what the heck it is!

    Hi Joan
    I had blood clots in my lungs while on chemo....was told it was from the chemo. I was put on Fragmin (shots in stomach ) for 7 months.

    Yes but not in my lungs. Mine was in iliac vein in groin. On "love-not" injections for 3 weeks post surgery then switched over to coumarin for remainder of chemo. my type of cancer, clear cell, has a 40% chance of blood clots...higher than typical. Was told that cancer/chemo increases risk of clotting. Post chemo scan showed everything resolved so I was able to discontinue.

    Hi Joan, I had a blood clot when I had my surgery back in 2010. At the time I was put on Lovenox in the hospital and then switched over to coumadin at home. I was told that the blood clot dissolved (they usually do with medication after 6 months), but I'm still on coumadin. I've been told that people with cancer are usually prone to blood clots. I also have become a little winded when walking up hills, in particular. I told my primary care doc about this and he said that it was due to my hemoglobin being a little low. My red blood counts have been a little low ever since I was on Topotecan for 2 months. But my doc tells me it's nothing to worry about that I'm just borderline anemic and my counts aren't really that bad. I trust my primary doc 110%, he is the greatest, and I know he would be honest with me. Hope you feel better.

    P.S. The coumadin is alot better than taking the shots. I was on Fragmin for 6 months and it was terrible. I got so black and blue from the needle that I couldn't wait to go back on coumadin. The only thing with coumadin is you need to watch what you eat because of the Vitamin K, but I'd rather watch what I eat then get those shots.

    Yes I had blood clots in my leg that were going to my lungs. They put me on lovenox for a couple of weeks then went on coumidin. That was in Jan. I guess I have to check in with my family doctor to see if it is time to get off the coumidin. Yes they did say it was from the chemo and very common side effect.
