More problems...this is getting old...already!

in Breast Cancer #1
Long story short....took the second cycle of my trial chemo with the upped dosage..one day late..last Thursday...because my right arm and hand had been swelling with pain... and some funky looking veins appearing on the upper part of my arm.......had to have yet ANOTHER CAT scan...it shows that the tumor above my clavicle is pressing on and has occluded a blood vessel...not a major one but occluded one all the same...now on Cumadin. So as not to " throw a clot " as the nurse so delicately put it......meeting with my radiation oncologist tomorrow morning....If he feels that the tumor needs to be radiated pronto to shrink it, I am out of the clinical trial....grrrr but my Oncologist who is out of country and called me Sunday said they are thinking of putting a stent in to open the occluded vessel...this would buy me time to stay in the trial....I never expected this with bc...the stent would be placed into the vessel through the groin......groan....where they sand bag you for 4 hours afterwards....now doesn't this sound like fun? And this second, upped dosage has kicked my butt! Lots of aches and pains, no energy or appetite....I can deal with that...the idea of a stent isn't thrilling me....

So....my appt is at 9:00 am...so I will jump on the pink bus for Chen's appt when I'm finished...it's okay, I can just jump on the back as it passes and hang on....I'll be sure not to drop the Xanax!

    What an odd twist to be sure! I as always wish you every good and positive outcome to the latest pothole in the road called Breast CAncer! We maneuver every step with you, sweet sister!

    Thinking of you~
    ~ I never get used to having procedures done, on this journey. I dread anytime they say they need to do something. I know it is what needs to be done, but it is never a fun time. Pack the chocolate, the wine, the games, good chick flicks, whatever it takes to make the trip more bearable~ certainly all the girlfriends on board make it a more joyful time, being surrounded by sisters who know the emotions, discomfort, and challenges.

    Oh my, Nancy, you sure have a lot to deal with. Sorry to hear of all these new complications. I never had a stent put in but did have 2 catheterizations, where they threaded the needle through the groin and it went up into the heart - it didn't hurt at all. The laying still afterwards with the pressure on the entry site was boring, but not painful, except when the strong male nurse pressed all of his weight on it for a long time.     Enough already. Nancy, I'm so sorry for these new complications. We need a coordinator for these bus schedules.

    If they are going to sandbag you, I wonder if that is anything like being burried in the sand at the beach?

    Sorry you are having so much trouble
    I will just take the whole day off to make all the bus trips neeeded. Hopefully you can stay in the trial.
