Thanks for all your support, help and love....12 rads down

Options
So went through my 12 rad, ended up speaking to the doctors and nurses...Going to try to manage pain with liquid Tylenol 3 with Codeine every 6 hours and 5mg (pill form..think I may need it in liquid)of Codeine 3 hours after each Tylenol dose. The doctor also prescribed 3 days in a row of 2L IV fluid with cordisone to calm the swelling. So had that now...which did calm the swelling in my mouth...I asked them not to take my iv port out as I am going to ask the doctor to continue this as I am having trouble getting down things easily...I also will talk to the nutritionist who said to tell her when it gets rough if and when I might think I may want a PEG... One question....if I do this...how do I keep my swallowing muscles up so I don't lose them..... It is still hard and painful and I know I am in good company, because you all know what we have to go through......

Thanks for letting me whine and whimper...and building me up to stay strong and not calling myself a wimp.....

On to #14 tomorrow...and talk with dr about iv fluid and peg!

Thanks again everyone!!!

    Swallowing muscles. You
Swallowing muscles. You will need to keep swallowing water or liquids through out the day. It can be hard. I didn't lose my swallow muscles wise, but I had a lot of swelling, and I have scar tissue.

    Daily Regime'
My routine once I could't eat solid food...I never did have a PEG, and for me it wasn't an issue... Not endorsing whether or not to have or not have a PEG...everyone is different. I just didn't have one and it was never an issue....

Anyways, my daily routine consisted of the following several times a day.

    I'd set-up the following;

    Glass of water
Numbing solution (magic lydocaine, liquid oxicotin or hydrocodone)
One - two containers of Ensure Plus
DelMonte Sliced Peaches in Light Syrup (to keep the muscles working)
Ground up dissolved percocet in a little water
    Glass of water

That was pretty much the order that I went through each item as well.

Then I'd usually take a warm shower, not sure why but it made me feel better and was part of my routine, LOL....

I refer to the period you are in as Ground Hog's Day, like the movie, same thing, day, after day, after day, after day....

    Best,
    John
