Yesterday I was walking around on my back porch & my movement scared a bird out of my old duck pen & it flew off into a tree just outside of the fence. It was chirping and it sounded odd, yet familiar.(I hadn't seen it yet) I then noticed 2 Blue Jays hovering over this bird like they were about to strike at it. It was a Cockatiel!! I woke up Hubby from a nap & asked him to go get a net. In the meantime, I ran out there & grabbed a stick to try to get it to land on it. This bird flew down & landed on my shoulder! I walked it into the house & it immediately flew into the room where my 2 doves are and made itself at home. (When Hubby finally came in with the net looking for us, the bird was on my head)
The poor thing was so hungry & thirsty, Lord only knows how long it had been out in the wild. Talk about being in the right place at the right moment!
I'm asking for your help yet again on ideas for a name. I'm not sure if it is a male or female, but I really want to name it something that honors this occasion.
*In addition to this story, this morning I'm on the phone and I see a Cardinal hanging on the window of the room where my birds are. (mind you there's no ledge there)
I think I may have to hang up a "No Vacancy" sign, either that or make that room a bird sanctuary!
Oh, I also have an otter that has moved into our pond! (I named it Ollie) :-)
♥ Always,
Cat

P.S. I just looked it up & it appears to be a Male!

    Lucky!
    What a great story!

Lucky sounds like a good name for it - because it really is that!

    How wonderful that you
How wonderful that you rescued it. My son in law found a love bird and they tried to find its owner. After more than a week they bought a cage and gear for it and the owner called about it. It came from around the corner. The lady was so happy to have her bird back. She actually bought the cage and stuff from them. They had called it Clover. So I am submitting that for the name. Again, so glad you were in the right place at the right time.

A bird on the head is worth two in the bush. I thought you were going to say it was your long lost birdy found it's way home.

I have a white one and the one that moved in with you is the same color as my mothers. They are very smart birds and learn to speak. My 1st male was called Rodane. The 2nd one we thought was a male and we named him Rodane the 2nd but he turned out to be Rosanne! The one I have now,16 years old, is Nibbles(not a very exciting name). Have fun with him.

That is a wonderful story. I think I would call him Treasure because you will always treasure the memory of how you came to have him.

I have missed your humor-glad to see you back! Love the pic too!
No long lost birdie, but it did made me think of my cat. While I was doing Chemo back in May last year, one night my cat started acting crazy & I was worried he was going to bite or scratch me so I let him out. He vanished. I came to terms that he was "gone".
8 months later, on Jan 5th of this year, he appeared on the top of the fence where he use to sit. Fat as could be! I couldn't believe it!
They say things happen for a reason, I truly believe he was "relocated" during that time to protect me.

    Great ideas
on names! Thank you all so much, this is going to be a tough one.
So far, he doesn't want to be handled and hasn't talked yet. It may take some time after what he's been through, but I'll keep working with him.
I will let you know what his name will be.
    Have a Safe & Happy 4th!
