I was just wondering if any of you ladies were tired after your 1st round of T/C or any other related treatment. I've got a slight metallic taste and a little tired. Is it the adrenaline or is this normal?

Thanks ladies :)

Today is my beautiful daughter's 2nd bday ~ Happy Birthday Gabrielle!!!!

    I didn't have chemo
I didn't have chemo rhamilton, but, I know other pink sisters will post to you that have. I do know that when you are having side effects though, with any treatment, you should let your oncologist know.

And, happy birthday to your daughter Gabrielle! Love her name.

    Hi
My chemo cocktail was tac. The first 48 hours are the worst as far as nausea but come day 3 or 4 the anchor drops in the butt and the gas tank runs on sludge. After those few days your energy level will start improving each day. I always found myself thinking oh God, this isn't much fun, but then by the end of the week I thought "oh that wasn't so bad".

I was lucky and didn't have the "metal" taste but I know a few of the other girls here will have great hints for that side effect. Hang in there sweetie it will be over before you know it.

    Hugs, Lorrie

Oh and Happy Birthday to your sweet daughter.

    Tired after Chemo
Oh my goodness, YES. I was indeed tired after my chemo treatments. I had 4 rounds of A/C and 12 rounds of Taxotere. Usually the 1st 3 or 4 days were the most draining. After that it improved and by the time of my next infusion I was doing really well. I never had the metallic taste issue but I know many of the women on this Board have had it. It is not an adrenaline issue and is a common side effect of chemotherapy. During the Taxotere rounds I absolutely lost my desire to eat AND everything seemed to taste like paste. I ended up losing almost 40 pounds. There is something to be said for being overweight to start with. With most people the side effects are cumulative. Meaning you will likely have more issues which will last longer with each successive round of chemo. Of course, everyone is different and you may not react that way. Taxotere was very hard on me but I got through it and never missed one. My last infusion was in August 2010. I will be having my tissue expander exchange surgery on Monday June 13th.

Good luck to you. Happy 2nd Birthday, Gabrielle! :)

    I May be weird.....
I may be weird, but I did not get tired for probably 3-4 days. I would go home from chemo and feel really ok for a few days, then it would hit. I would be really tired for about a week. I would also get bad constipation for a few days then it would go to the big D. I never really had a problem with nausea at all due to the pre meds they gave me....

My experience was pretty much the same as Punkindo. I was particularly tired after my first chemo mostly due to the state of fear I had built myself into. I had the metallic taste after each treatment and the good news is it does go away eventally. I found that eating with plastic utensils helped a lot and of course, lots of water and Biotene mothwash and toothpaste. It sounds like you are fighting head on and you will persevere!!! Best wishes.

    I'm on TC now
I just finished my second round of TC. I also get the Neulasta shot the day after the infusion. The first 48 hours after, I was a little tired. But tired doesn't come close to the fatigue that followed for me.

I had bad fatigue and bone pains about 3 days after each treatment. The first round it lasted for about 2 days. The second round was about 3 days. I couldn't get out of bed and felt like I would never get better. Then it lifts and I get back to normal.

For the bone pains, the Aleve/Claritin combo worked for me.

I had the metallic taste also and then lost most of my taste buds. They came back about 10 days later. That happened each time.

My hair fell out the first cycle, at about day 14-15.

My kids are young too (5 and 7) so it is tough to care for them when you feel crappy. But it does pass and you do go back to feeling normal.

    Good luck.

    tired after T/C
I have taxotere/cytoxan also for my chemo. I had my third treatment 3 days ago. I have learned drinking lots of water (I love poland spring) helps so much with the fatigue and the metal taste in your mouth.I rinse my mouth with 1/4 tsp baking soda and warm water to avoid mouth sores after i eat, esp this first week. I didn't drink or eat enough after my first treatment and i felt so fatigued. I still have episodes of fatigue and weakness but not as bad. I start to feel better on day5-7. Good luck!

I was tired and also had the bad taste...
Hi, I had taxotere and cytoxan. Four treatments in all, each three weeks apart. I was tired the whole time. I still worked except for took four day weekends when I had my treatments. Plan for rest for yourself. Also, learn to let some things go, and to say NO sometimes...You have to do that to keep your strength up.
Also, I had a weird taste in my mouth almost the whole time. My MD said it was to be expected. I kept some sugar free mints with me. Some things I liked (such as diet coke), I couldn't tolerate/wasn't interested in until about 2-3 weeks post chemo...
BEST WISHES to you, and take care of yourself!
