newly diagnosed

Hi all! I am a newly diagnosed ovarian cancer patient stage 1c. I had a suspicious cyst that was found on a ct scan. My gyn was 90% sure it was an endometrioma but said the only way to be sure is to do surgery. On May 24th I underwent a laparoscopic hysterectomy robotic assisted. I was told everything was fine-no cancer. Two days later the doctor called me and said the pathologist called and said there was indeed cancer in the ovary. The gyn failed to send the specimen during surgery to frozen section. He just assumed it was not cancer. Therefore no staging procedure was done. Based on the limited information that the pathologist had I was staged as a 1c. After talking to a specialist in gyn/oncology I am having a PET scan friday to look for spread and if everything is ok I will have a mediport implanted and start chemo. If it is not ok, a surgery for staging will be completed and then chemo. Tomorrow I get a second opinion. I am ready to get moving on the chemo. It seems strange to look forward to something that sounds so awful!

    I felt the same way
I couldn't wait to get the chemo started to me it was the sooner I started the sooner I could put it behind me. It is probably not as bad as you imagine it will be. Sorry you had to join our group but we support each other and help with everything.Let us know what happens after your second opinion.

    I am a newbie too
I sent of a reply a bit ago but it seems to have gotten lost. I was diagnosed this past April. I had the debulking surgery and yesterday had my first chemo.

Being diagnosed with this is just...wrong, but it is what it is. We are here. The ladies here are great and can act as a sounding board if you have questions.

They reminded me of the port, just in time for the first chemo. It worked beautifully. They gave me advise on how to deal with the chemos. This is a wealth of information and support.

I am also 1C, clear cell.
I am also 1C, clear cell. Are you Clear cell? It typically gets DX earlier because often is associated with a large pelvic mass (mine was 16-17 cm). My TVUS prior to surgery suggested it could be either endometrioma or malignant. Well it turned out to be cancer, which burst during surgery, hence the 1C. I then did 6 rounds of chemo, finished 3 months ago. So far so goo. Sounds like you are on the right track if you are seeing a gyn onc. Very important to be TX by a gyn onc. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Hi Everyone! I had my second
Hi Everyone! I had my second opinion Friday with U of M. They agreed with the original opinion which makes things easier. The pathology slides will be reviewed this coming Wednesday to see if they agree with the original pathologist. I was diagnosed with a 1c endometriod adenocarcinoma. I was told this because of the size, location on outside of ovary and gyn that did surgery had it break open into the abdomen. Tomorrow I will have the mediport inserted and next Wednesday the 29th I will have the first round of chemo. Oh by the way the Pet Scan came out clean so that was terrific news! Thanks for the warm welcome!
