    Susie,
    You and Brendon have

    Susie,

You and Brendon have also been in me thoughts and prayers. I think back to when I was diagnosed back in July 2010 and a meeting I had with a social worker at the hospital where I was receiving my treatments. My oncologist asked me to speak to the social worker because he could see I was having a very difficult time accepting my diagnoses. I’ll never forget something the social worker said during our conversation. She said “cancer is a series of disappointments”, truer words have never been spoken.

Thinking of you and praying for Brendon daily
    Susie,

I know after the challenges and disapointments of the last few weeks that you and Brendon need to take some time to regroup.
Please know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many of us.

    Best Regards,

Thank you for all the thoughts
    Hello Everyone -

I was instructed to not put Brendon's details on the internet about his case....it's an abnormal one, for sure...

But what I will tell you is that Brendon has been in the hospital ever since the day of his no-surgery. They stablized him enough to get us home on Thursday but we came back to the hospital the same day.

Today Brendon is doing great - in comparison. He actually slept all night...even through them coming in to take blood out of his port two times! He woke up this morning with a new little pep in his step.

He starts a new regiment of chemo today...we pray that it works and works fast!!! I know that Taxol is one of the chemo drugs and the other one starts with an "I"....I'm too lazy to get up to look at my sheet of paper! lol

I've been getting him movies to watch...ones to make him laugh...such an important ingredient in his healing plan!!!

When Brendon was taken to recovery after his no-surgery, he said he woke up and looked at the clock. He said he was so let-down to see that it was only 10:00 am...he knew right then, that something was not good. The first few days were extremely difficult mentally for us...but we have re-grouped...talked with God a lot and are in a better place. We will fight this to the end!!! And I mean the end of the cancer!!!!!!!
I don't know if I could have made it through those first few days in Pittsburgh without the support of Dana and Billy Moore. They both are wonderful wonderful people!!

Cindy - I received your message while in Pittsburgh and I am so sorry I didn't call you back..it wasn't a good moment in time for us....I am disappointed that you were so close, but we didn't get to meet! Maybe one day....

We found out yesterday that Brendon's uncle was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He has only had his scope done...no further testing yet so we don't know what stage. All I know is the tumor is 5 cm. They live in Houston, so he will be going to MD Anderson for treatment. Jim has been having problems for many many many months. I don't know WHY it took him so long to go get his scope done considering everything Brendon is going through. Jim has already lost a ton of weight because for 3 months now, the only thing he could eat was soup... Praying for Jim and his family that the cancer hasn't spread and he will be operable!!

Brendon is a trooper. I am so lucky to have a hero and a fighter for a husband. Please keep the prayers coming our way. He has a very very long and difficult journey ahead.

I think of all of you often. I haven't kept up with everyone lately but I will do better. Sending all our love and prayers to each of you and your families.
    God Bless,
    Susie

What side effects did Jim noticed the most w/ these two drugs? How often did he take it and for how long?? Brendon will be 2 weeks on, 1 week off....repeat. That's one cycle. They want him to do 4-6 cycles...a total of 18 weeks or so....

    Thanks,

    Thank you for the concern..
I appreciate everyone being concerned about what has happened to Brendon and the delay it took me to get on the computer and write an update. However, I really don't need a lecture about it. I realize every one cares and that we all have been through the same thing...so it should be understood that if I didn't have the time or energy or to be downright honest, the desire, to log into this site...it should be understood why.

Guess it was my turn to let out a bit of frustration....

    Susie, so glad to hear
Susie, so glad to hear Brendon is doing better. As a caregiver I understand how difficult it can be to get on the computer to post sometimes. Some days I wonder where the time goes. Rickie is also on Irinotecan, however he takes Erbitux along with it. After his third week of receiving treatment he came down with severe diarrhea and landed in the hospital for a week. So be on the lookout and catch it early. After that our doctor changed the chemo to where he was getting both drugs once a week for two weeks and then would take a week off of the Irinotecan. He also gives him an injection of Sandostatin once a month for the diarrhea and that seems to have helped. After six weeks of treatment the dr. At MDAnderson changed the regime. Presently he is taking a stronger dose of the same drugs but only every three weeks. He will have four rounds of that. One other side effect of the Irinotecan that the has had this time is the increased salivation and runny nose. For a few days after the treatment he kept getting that "watering"feeling like you get before you throw up, but he never vomited.
I am so sorry to hear about Brendon's uncle. I would like to know what Dr. They will be seeing at MDAnderson. In all the times we have gone there we have never actually met anyone else with esophageal cancer. I know they treat quite a few, but just haven't run into anyone else.
Again, be assured we are keeping you in our prayers.

    frustration
I'm sure we can all understand your frustration, this disease is a rocky roller coaster ride indeed. You've had a huge disappointment and needed a little time alone to lick your wounds. No one can possibly blame you for that!

I can certainly relate to needing a bit of a break from this site, as I've spent many sleepless nights pondering what I've read here, every story is a nightmare. The wonderful people here are just sometimes too honest, and it can be very hard to read..... especially in moments of weakness and extreme stress, which you must be going through right now!

Just know that although most of us are strangers to each other, and only share one unfortunate thing in common, we all can relate to your pain and fear. I hope you and Brendon are staying positive and getting ready to slay the dragon!

    Thinking of you,
