I had posted sometime back about my surgery and how well I was doing...pretty quick recovery...but since then I was totally impacted (sp?) from the pain killers..I think i would rather deal with surgery pain then enemas (not trying to over share)and manually de-impacted by dr..most painfull thing every if my life...like labor for 3 days for triplets...OMG I would not wish on my worst enemy. Set me back a bit...but getting better day by day...very weak..wiped me out..first day back on line...tired of couch, bed and day time shows...

    Potty Problems
    Hi Denise,

After my mastectomy I developed frozen shoulder and eventually had to have surgery for that. I too developed "potty problems" due to the narcotics. The shoulder surgery was more painful than the mastectomy. The nurses then told me (a little late I might add) that if you are taking narcotics then you should also be taking stool softeners. My tissue expander exchange surgery is on June 13th. I will most definitely have have the right otc meds on hand this time.

Despite all that you have been through I am glad to hear that you are getting better.

    Keep us posted.

    So sorry
So sorry to hear you've had such a rough time of it. Certainly sounds like it was an awful experience and I'm glad you're on the mend. Take your time, be good to yourself.

Thoughts and prayers going to you.

    Thought of you...
I thought of you last night. I am sorry you're going through this as I too experienced this with AC treatment (had backup from 9 days!!!!). This was weeks ago, and I am still trying to heal. Please note, do not overeat. As a matter of fact, keep liquids at all times, and eat extra soft foods, lots of fiber, small portions. Keep doing this until you feel better, please. It helps so much. And you need to take stool softner pills. You'll feel better, promise. I already feel better. I hope you recover from this very soon.

    Sorry to hear this, Denise
but I'm glad you are on the mend. I always have issues with narc. pain meds so I avoid them when I can. Boy, just when you think you've gone through just about as much as you can--something like this pops up. Feel better, drink, drink, drink.

Oh Denise! How horrible!! I know how you feel. I've been on painkillers for years because of chronic pain, so I feel you!! I hope it didn't spoil your camping? I hope you feel better now. If you are still taking the pain meds you should take some fiber supplements to keep the juices flowing : ) You can't be tired of tv so soon! I swear, I have never watched so much tv in my life as the last 3 months. They have started to all look the same. Feel better ~

    Sorry to hear
that you had to go through all that. I know it is difficult when things that are supposed to make one thing better sometimes make something else worse. I am glad you are feeling a little better each day. Take care of yourself and get lots of rest.

@Irene-me too they told me once in the ER
I have had shoulder surgery and frozen shoulder and on vicodin..only used as needed..(hardly at all) so maybe why no issue then...after 2 procedures...the potty problems were so much worse then the pain from Hysterectomy for sure..

In my chemo class they scared me with the threat of manual de-impaction...it made me stay on top of stool softeners, etc. I'm so sorry you had to go through this, but glad to hear you are getting better. Keep pampering yourself.

I am a great fan and advocate of "POWER PUDDING" whenever I have to take narcotics~ I am so sorry this happened to you, and I can literally feel your pain~ I had the constipation from hell during chemo and ended up calling my Dr at 3AM.

So, this recipe has been posted here previously, and it is darn near a miracle! It is also used in nursing homes...and I like the idea of not adding any more meds to my system if at all possible.

    1 CUP APPLESAUCE
    1 CUP ALL-BRAN CEREAL
    3/4 CUP PRUNE JUICE
Mix together so it kinda ressembles cake batter/pancake mix. Eat 1 TABLESPOON, followed by a big glass of water. It is obviously really fibre-rich, so eating too much could cause cramping. But, if you have no results within a "reasonable" amount of time, repeat followed by water! Store in the fridge.

My sister had foot surgery and needed narcotics~ this recipe worked for her as well.

Hope that you are on the mend...love you!
